buying reclaimed teak wood

Post by blrsiteseeker »

has anyone checked out how much the old teak wood doors and frames sell for. Just want to get an idea if it would work out cheaper than getting new ones and how much the cost differential is.

Also, any tips on how to figure out if it is good teak.

If these doors are painted now, can that be removed and finished nicely?

thanks in advance

Hi,
You can look for old teak frames, but you have limitations on sizes of windows and doors. If you get a deal directly from a owner you can get a good deal.If it goes to second hand vendor he hikes the price.
Getting this kind of old frames is very rare case.Since any one demolishing a old house plans to built new using same .
Painted doors can be cleaned and polished.

Hi Praveen,
thank you for the info.

I do understand some people build another house if they demolish one, but there are many houses that get dismantled for construction of apartments, which will really cannot reuse these - since they need many such doors and windows and will opt for a more uniform look.

Do you have any place in Bangalore (with any contact information if possible) that does sell these doors and windows. Do you happen to have any price info - if they are available. I had seen some near Mantri Mall that had them laid out. Also, how would one go about checking these frames/ doors to ensure they are indeed teak.
