Sump lid flush with floor

Post by Brinda »

Hello All,

I need some advice.

Currently we have a sump for storing water. The nearby area is tiled with granite stone pavers of very thin thickness.
The sump has been covered with a steel plate that meshes with a groove like pattern on closing. This stell plate and the rest of the granite stones in the surrounding are are flush with each other

My concern is that if we were to wash this area / if it rains the dirty water from the surrouding area would fall into the sump.

Initially we thought of building a border with a certain height around it , but unfortunately that does seem to be feasible.

Any suggestions would be nice.

Thanks and Regards

Raise the lid level but for that border and surrounding pavers need to be removed.

FRP Sump lid 2x2 feet size is just 1800rs

why don't you remove the existing chequred plate Lid and put an FRP lid from top of granite border. it won't rust looks nice and will be at same level as floor ( 1 inch higher actually)
steel lid you can remove leaving the frame as is.

I purchased the FRP lid 28" x 28" 2T capacity for Rs.1850 from KR Market Wholesale store.. It's cheaper than local hardware shop.. They're keeping 2T and 5T capacity FRP in Ivory and Grey colour..

Hi Saran,

Could you send me pictures of just the lid , in top view and side view nd also how it looks when fitted to the sump.
Want to observe how its height will prevent water from nearby areas entering into the sump. Would be helpful.
I recently got 2ft by 2ft steel plate fitted to my sump but unfortunately it rests flush with the rest of the portico floor. Due thr rains recently we observed that the slop provides around the edges of the sump was not enough to prevent the water from the surrounding area to enter into the sump.

Hence pictures would help in better visualizations.

And as Visualizer earlier pointed out maybe i dont even need to remove the frame.

What was the effort involved ( masonry/ fabrication) in fitting this to your sump ?

Hi Brinda
I'm yet to fit it. I'll share the picture.
I bought it from Select Hardwares, S.P.Road Cross. Due to paucity of time, I enquired in four shops and purchased it from above store. You can check in Godown street and surrounding areas for better deal.

FRP sump lid comes wlong with a FRP frame of same colour. For fitting the frame it will be set on your granite surface with cement or may be some adhesive like metal paste or areldite if it is polished granite and cement won't hold.

No need to go to KR Market for single item because your transport cost will be more than difference in price, in most local hardware shops atlesst in Koramangala and also near Marthahalli from where i buy stuff it is same 1850 Rs may be you can check it out at nearby local shop.

Will try to take picture and post whenever I go to HW /plumbing store next.

I have not fitted sump and chamber lids yet will do omce all the labor moves out of site.
