Carpentry Work Query [ Labour, Timber/wood procurement ]

Post by Madhusudhan Joshi »

Hello Forum,

I am looking for best approach to procure wood for Doors,Frame and Windows. Any specific and reliable wood material vendors that you can point me to.

Also I have identified a carpenter ( after checking his current work ) for getting done the Doors,Windows and Frames.
Carpenter is quoting is Rs.160/- Per Sft labour cost. Is this reasonable ? What is the current prevailing labour cost for carpentry work.

I tried to find from few in-the-construction buildings , but they are working on contract basis [Material + Labour], hence not able to get clear idea.

Appreciate your help.

You are in which part of Bangalore? My carpenter has done fairly good and fast job at reasonable rate using White sal for frames and ghana teak for shutters. He completes his work in the Timber shop itself and brings the ready frames/shutters to site.

yes 160 psft is fine for shutters + frame(depends on the type of shutter too) , first determine whether you are going to get wood polished or painted , decide the wood based on that and then you can look for vendors who sell that kind of wood. Ideally its best if you procure the wood a month before the actual use.
