Hi Members,
What would be the quality of the building constructed during the monsoon ?
Will it have the same strength as the buildings constructed on any other season ?
Wouldn't the rain wash away the core mixture of the building, like cement and sand mixtures and there by weakening the strength ? If there is a way to prevent this then how can that be done.
I think i am paranoid to begin the construction of the second floor during the monsoon but the builders do not have any concern about this. If some one can share their experience regarding that then it might be helpful for all.
Thanks,
Babu

Re: Construction during monsoon
Hi babu,
Construction during monsoon is basically a time taking process ,there is no harm in constructing during monsoon.
The critical level of constructions should be planned very carefully , slab casting, exterior walls etc....Always keep tarpaulins, plastic sheets handy at site.Technically its good to rains after 6-7 hours of the slab casting, also during monsoon the curing will be good and setting takes place gradually.Since there are lot practical problems in execution during monsoon, many not prefer to start work.Once you reach to painting level monsoon is the worst season.
Technically you not painting works for new home in monsoon, since the walls are wet the paints wont stick properly .

Re: Construction during monsoon
If you have very good decision making capability and timely co-ordinating skills, Rainy season in southern karnataka is a good season for constructions. as Praveen mentioned there is a need for gap of 4-6 hours for rains after the work is done.
As the sunlight and temperature will also be low to moderate and very good curing will takes place naturally. Also the Bricks will get enough water before they put in to the construction. Even though the essential curing of any civil works need upto 21 days, Nowadays, No contractors feed enough water to the Civil works for more than 3-4 days (excluding the moulding), they've very std answer, we use Birla Super Cement, it doesn't need curing for more than 3 days. You will see its impact only after the next summer season. The inside bricks starts sucking moisture from the walls and the external plastering starts getting cracks slowly and it will be visible.
Only difficulty is logistics and maintainance of Cement Bags in good condition and Sometimes it stops your construction work abruptly and you may not get the full utilisation of labour force, if the contract is on daily basis.

Re: Construction during monsoon
Thanks Praveen and msn1270 for your valuable inputs.
So, against my skeptical thinking, it is good to know that construction during monsoon has its own advantage to certain extent.
Thanks again.
Best,
Babu
