Construction material prices

How do members see the construction material prices panning out in the near to medium term with steel having experienced a serious climb down in the recent months, copper, confused, yet lower than what it was a year ago. Add to that the global markets like US and Europe staring at a double dip recession.

UpVC local brand - Rs 350 per sqft

Will someone care to provide best vendors for "river sand", who is "reliable"???? With the call off, of the transport strike, I did not find any differences in the sand prices.

M3_07, Could you tell me the current market rate of river sand?. I heard from my building contractor that the river sand rate is 28k and he says that the river sand rates will not come down even if Govt sorts all the issues as the sand suppliers are part of a cartel that does not reduce the price. I am also confused as to what is going to be future price of river sand.

River Sand Prices start from Rs 25,000/- there is nothing called reliable vendors, its fully un-organised sector, prices of river sand will go up from present rate. even cement prices have increased by Rs 5-7/-. steel, cement rates will start going up from feb 2011 till june-july(Rainy season). companies are preparing from now onwards.

All these days people are blindly going for concrete structures, with the price rise of sand, cement, steel, people are looking at alternative construction techniques without depending too much on cement, steel, sand etc.

River sand

Harihara - 60K - 10 wheeler Lorry
Challa kere - 40K - 10 wheeler lorry
Rest - GOD KNOWS !!

Alternate techniques are still a hyped phenomenon. While they say conserve wood/ forests, a upvc window costs 900 SFT - good ones. This is a multifold increase to price of wood (barring Teak).

Filter sand will erode the steel bars, as to what I was told. Hence, I am looking too cautiously at this.

Indus TMT - 45.5K
Birla Super - 53 grade - 308 (did not get into transpoortation costs, which will eventually be included if the lot is greater tahn 20 bags)

Which steel is good - Indus or Tata Tiscon?

Tata is still #1, followed by Indus. Not aware on the Tata prices. Tiscon is sold in Bar Units & not tonnege.
