vaastu prinicples
vaastu prinicples
I want to have a duplex construction in a 30x40 east facing site and trying to comply by vaastu priniciples as much as possible. Although general principles are consistent across different sources, some principles dont seem to be consistent.
Any recommendations of a authentic source (website, book, etc) which I can use to understand these prinicples?
I understand it is mostly a personal choice as to what extent we should follow vaastu prinicples. Although I'm not a vaastu freak, I need to respect some sentiments of the family members, at least as much as possible, although I dont want to lose out on built up area and design.
Is it a vaastu requirement that the overall built up area should be a square/rectangle ? I'm trying to accomodate a car parking and project a portion of the built up area (as indicated in the attachment) . Is this against vaastu ?

Hi Akula,
Yes Vaastu is very much personal choice. if you are not so particular about achieving 100% vaastu , just keep the location of masterbedroom, kitchen and main door according to the vastu, by this you will achieve 50% vastu.
Entrance door should be NE,E-N,SE &if west door it should be more towards west-north
Masterbedroom -SW OR NE
Kitchen- SE OR NW
It is not necessary to keep the building square/rectangle , just keep the plinth square/rectangle if you want.

Usually the parking will be covered one, so it should be considered for deciding on the design of the building. With the covered car parking, the house can be a square or can be rectangular one.
I am attaching a plan. you may check it. It is a East facing design.

Re: vaastu prinicples
Hi ,
Some how i feel vaastu should be taken serious as long as it makes sense.I believe SE/NW kitchen due to good lighting levels and keeps the kitchen fresh.SW master br since the cool breeze flows in and keeps the master of the house cool
, Over head tank in SW will help to keep the master br cool by shading. So on.....
Belief on vaastu is a very personal choice, one may agree one may not.

Aaya calculation is very important for vastu compliant. First check that and ensure that you have dwajaaya.
There are other minor violations which i can highlight in next post.
Thanks,

Thanks a lot for all your inputs.
MNRS : My original plan looked somewhat similar to yours. The garden portion in your plan looks cool.

Hi MNRS,
I did the aaya calculation and because of fractions it is coming close to 4th aaya. Try to set your aaya for Dhwajaya.
(i) Dhwaja Aaya : Monetary benefits
(ii) Dhumra Aaya : Sorrows
(iii) Simha Aaya : Luxuries
(iv) Svana Aaya : Great sins
(v) Vrushabha Aaya : Increase of wealth & gains
(vi) Gaja Aaya : Success
(vii) Kaka Aaya : Death
The calculation is (carpet area * 9)/8. In your case the outer wall is 9 inches. Take the plinth area and subtract 18 inches for each side to derive the carpet area. The remainder after division by 8 should be 1.
Thanks

Re: vaastu prinicples
I am not that much vastu freek. Any case, for the house, the calculation is for the entire house, not just for the first room alone. There are several ways, people will perceive the vastu principles.
Also, if the Aya can change with 1 ft of Carpet area change, how much we can really bother ? In any case, as per my calculation (I just came to know about this after seeing your post) it is either 7 or 5.
With the current site sizes, I can't bother about the Vastu more than this. So I am happy if at all the light & air is good in the house and if it is not harmful

@mnrs,
Very well said, most people spoil their mind just to achieve 100% vastu which really doesn’t exit. In a city like Bangalore where we get very small piece of land for lakhs and our neighbors build their house till the edge of site, in this condition if we follow vastu we end up with our bedroom window opening into neighbor’s utility area etc.. This is so unpleasant to be in our own house where we spent so many lakhs.
