Pressure Pumps

Has anyone considered using a Pressure Pump along with Solar Water Heater for use with Shower Panels/Jacuzzi?

The only pumps everyone talks about is grundfos pumps. These are mighty expensive and has two models one costing 20500 and the other 23000 Rupees. Any experience in using other pressure pumps?

we were looking for these as well. And all I heard about were grundfos too. If you do get info on others, please pass it on to us.

We needed one for the solar heater, and one for all the showers together . Not sure if we need 2 or just one will do. I have tried talking to the plumber, but did not get too detailed a response. Need to do some research myself on that.

I found another company that has pressure pumps. My query to them is yet to be answered. They have an office in Bangalore.

I spoke to a dealer in Mysore who deals with both Grundfos and CRI pumps. According to him, Grundfos sells two makes of pumps. one is labelled Grundfos that is manufactured by grundfos and another is a lable I forgot, is manufactured by someone else and marketed by Grundfos. The cheaper pump is comparable to CRI Pumps. According to him, the reliability of CRI Pumps in general is not very high and in his experience Grunfos pumps work flawlessly for many many years. He has seen Grundfos pumps (imported directly from Denmark) working every after 20 years, while about 20% of CRI Pumps ( all monobloc, submersible and pressure pumps) fail in the first 2 to 3 years. So may be the extra money Grundfos charges is probably worth it, if their pumps work reliably for more than 10 years.

Hi,
Using pressure pumps needs a lot precautions .First thing you should have dedicated pressure lines only for showers and body jets.
Make sure you do a pressure testing for the concealed part of these lines.since the pressure is high there are chances of joints leaking.Plumber will come with a manual pressure pump fill the water and build the pressure .Leave it for a while and check for any leaks.

I did get a response from the pumpsingurgoan website. They deal with multiple makes of pressurepumps. The price they quoted varied from 13,200 to 1,12,000. They deal with Shimge, Usha, Kent, Nochipentair, texmo, dayuan, and Franklin make pumps.

Yes, I have been using a pressure pump at my home with the solar heater. However, it is not just for the shower panels. It pressurizes the cold water line from the overhead tank which is supplying the entire house (of course excluding the toilet flush line and garden hose points). The solar heater is fed from this pressurized line.

This is not a 'packaged' pressure pump though. I used a Grundfos SQ series pump along with a pressure tank and a pressure switch. I believe the SQE series is better suited for this application, but it could be more expensive. You may be able to use other pumps, but my choice of SQ (or SQE for that matter) was purely because of its soft start capabilities. This is useful if you want to run this pump off an inverter.

This setup has been in service for over 6 years now without any hiccup. On hind sight, I believe I could have gone with a lower capacity SQ pump, but then the same model pump is used for filling the OH tank from the sump and thought I will go for a matched pair.
