New Water and electrical connected for a renovated house

Post by Brinda »

Hello All,

Our electrical contractor claims he pulled a few strings and consulted people and is quoting me 1,7 lakhs for road cutting for electrical connection , water connection ans sanitary connection .
Our house is 40 years old and we were drawing electricity directly from the pole overhead. This is no longer allowed and moreover after renovation our demands for electricity have gone up hence we had to surrender the old meters and get a new one which we got.
Our existing water connection is also 40 years old ans is causing problems
Hence in order to rectify this we plan to get new connections
Above is the quote from the contractor( without having legal proof / documents from BBMP side) . Is this reasonable and is this the right approach .
Would be really grateful if someone could guide me .

Hi Brinda
For road cutting 1.7 lakh is an outrageous price. Even if your home is in the heart of the city and on the main road. I wonder if this 1.7 is only an unofficial amount that does not include any of the deposits for upgraded connections etc.
We faced these kinds of issues in high value areas like Jp Nagar 2nd phase, in this case bbmp was not giving permission since its newly laid road was about 1.5 year old:) . We had to wait for about 4-5 months before there was a proposal for re- tar on the same road and we got it done at just 20k. Waiting may not work in your case but legally speaking road cutting charges are not so high as 1.7 lakh.
Approach BBMP for road cutting permission and then you can lay the pipe and leave it if other agencies are not ready to give connection immediately.

Hi Praveen ,
Thank you so much for this information. This is really valuable input.

We are facing a similar issues , the road in front of my house was re tared in January 2 this year. So one of the reasons my electrical contractor is saying is that if I were to approach BBMP myself , I will not get the permission for atleast one year and that he had to pull strings and ask around.

What did you mean when you say deposit for upgraded connections ?

Could you share your contact details so that I can directly reach out to you. Would be very grateful.

Thanks and Regards
Brinda
