Electrical provision to be finalised before roofing

Post by ganpath_blr »

I am in discussion with my architect about the electrical diagram for ground floor roofing work.
Please share your inputs on the important points that needs to be covered so that we dont have any problem later. Also for security cameras and video door phone is there any special provision that needs to be made. Thanks in advance for your inputs.

Hi Ganpath,
It's good that Electrical diagram is made common practice for construction of house. Yes people tend to complaint post house finishing time that I'm not able add cctv cables as it's not planned or pipe doesn't sufficient for extra cabling or owners plan for additional line post construction. To avoid all this it's better to plan ahead before plasting is completed and it's much more advantageous when planned while house plan is finalized.
As you didn't mentioned about number of floors assuming G+2 and CCTV required for ground floor & 2nd floor.
* Water level indicator sensor wire should be running from the Electric meter box till the Sintex this can be accommodated with electric line
* Ground floor with CCTV separate pipe caring CCTV cable and if required on all floors then this should be leading control room having DVR box or provide next to TV if you have plans to connect to your hall TV. If CCTV are running towards TV then the pipe used should be less then 1 inch and, but atleast 2.5 inch pipe for about 5 to 6 feet is required to pull all the CCTV cable to TV and possibly you could pull internet cable as well.
* Security door camera doesn't require bigger line this could be provided next to door wall or you could install on the main door.
* provide with atleast 4 sockets for your TV this could require TV plug, internet plug, DTH connector, additional Alexa or additional devices.
* Bedroom occupied with dual switch
* Hall consist of 4 light points
* Hall if your planning for mould concealed light at 4 corners then provision should be provided, this avoids additional POP for hall, if not can be planned for bedroom, kitchen, Poona room, lounge room or dinning hall
* Depending on hall size two fan points if bigger hall or 1 fan for smaller hall.
* If internet line is planned separate then additional point in hall
* Extra 3/4 inch pipe line for cable line from top of the house on 2nd floor till TV area & additional point required for TV in bedroom please plan
* Wall cladding or TV cabinet if planned additional points at hall
* Kitchen with chimney or exhaust fan point
* Kitchen with AH point for oven & grinder. 1 fridge point & mixer grinder point
* Bedrooms with Two socks atleast on 2 walls. On atleast right next to door.
* Bathroom with geyser point and point next to mirror away from water splash area with 3 pin socket for using shaving trimmer.
* Pooja room with socket and 2 light points, one at top other at centre top & just below ceiling.
* Elevator is planned please consult your lift person on the Electric lines required.
* Exterior house light provision based on plan.
* Hall & bedroom with A/C provision AH point
* Car parking & passage lighting points
* Electric line supporting for Charging electric bike or car at parking space

Any clarifications you could email me.

Regards,
Sandeep

Couple of learnings from my experience

Never blindly go by the drawing. Drawing is usually done by somehow who doesn't visit the site often. Please mark out light points based on natural light availabe (incase you need light during the day too) ..

Get the jist of the electrical points form the drawing. Such has fan points, lighting points etc . Measure the actuals at site, and mark it again (as actuals vary from design)

When constructing at my site, as there was form work below, the electrical felt it was easy to measure on the roof. He did that, but missed wall thickness, loft etc.. As a result, the Fan didnt come exactly at the center of the bed/room.. work with electrician to ensure that measurement is done below the roof (in case of false ceiling this shdnt be a worry) ..

Get good quality pipes (there are two qualities, one for wall and roof). To test the quality of the roof pipe, stand on the piping with both legs, leaving your entire weight, it shouldn't crack..

Get heavy duty junction points. .. ensure that junction points are filled with plastic sheet or paper that enables easy cleaning later..

For CCTV, usually a droppings are provided at the end of the beam. make sure that it is set straight and to full depth.. a lof of time, the electricial might break out a big chunk of the beam to expose the drop.. thereby weakening the beam..

Use 1 Inch pipes or bigger if it permits, many a times, we want to draw thicker cables, such as Internet and TV cable and 3/4 inch pipes will not thick wires be drawn easily.

I like to share my learnings based on my experience, Make sure following pipe connection are there

1. Sump motor to water tank to install automatic water level controller. Some times it's installed inside EB Meter box.
2. CCTV unit to DVR / TV / Computer
3. Internet Fibre cable from terrace to Modem. And then CAT6 cable from Modem to Router and TV. It reduces unnecessary WiFi signal inside the house.
4. DTH cable from Terrace to TV unit
5. Home Theatre's Rear Speaker piping from Woofer. It should be separate from Electric piping to avoid interference.
6. E-vehicle charging point in parking area for 2W and 4W separately.
7. Intercom telephone wiring to different rooms. It'll be useful in Duplex houses like mine. I made a pipe connectivity between GF-Kitchen and FF-Computer Table.

I made up my own Electrical plan based on my requirements which was very useful to me during implementation. I attached the PDF. I hope it'll be useful.
