Hello ,
There is rain water getting in to my balcony in first floor which seeps though the floor tiles on to the wall. I am thinking of extending the roof of the balcony by a feet, so that water getting in to the balcony can be reduced. I have seen poly* stuffs being fixed on small grill work attached to the balcony roof. But they look really ugly after a few months with fungus and color faded. Any better options with good durability ? Since the area is less ( hardly 7 X 1 ft ) , I am not too worried about the cost. Also any contacts, who does these kind of quality work in South bangalore ?
Best material to extend the roof ?

Hi Jack,
I understand your Balcony is in South side, As in Bangalore this Season the more rain is from South Side. Hence if we don't have enough Space in the Exposed area, it will come inside. Just Put the Transparent Glass covering on the top side of the Balcony with Hanging type or Frame with Glass , So that water will not seep into the Balcony. Don't put extension of Poly Sheets outside, it looks ugly and you will not able to clean it as well.

Hi jack
Are you looking at reducing the splash while the balcony is full open ? you can use WPC material that comes in wood kind look. You can decorate it with "eave" boards. that will reduce the height of the balcony opening . Other way is to use traditional bamboo rollers but they will work for about 3-4 years max.

Re: Best material to extend the roof ?
In fact "yes" somewhat. To be more precise, there are two issues. One obviously the water splash to the balcony and since tiling is not perfect, water seeps in through the floor wetting the adjoining wall , which happens to be my drawing room !! Second issue is , the roof of the balcony is not extended at all , meaning it ends exactly on top of the railing of the balcony . Since the railing of the balcony is fitted on vertical mesh cement work , water from the roof keeps falling exactly on the the railing/its bottom , making this mesh work wet. This mesh is kind of remain soaked for 2-3 days after rain and that water also seeps in to the wall, through the joining of this mesh work and the wall !!
I feel the wet mesh portion is causing more seepage than the water that seeps in via the ground tiling of the balcony. Hence trying to fix both issues by slightly extending the roof of the balcony and then covering it up on the sides also . Extension will stop the water dropping directly to this mesh work and the covering up the sides will fix the floor seepage too. At-least that’s what my plan is.
Anyway thanks Praveen, I will check out these things. What is the local name used for these things in the market , so that I can ask my mason to get them .?
