Advise on Painting Labour quote

Post by Pratap »

Hello Friends,

I need your valuable inputs and suggestions on the labour quote given by my painter.

he is quoting Rs. 3800 / Square (Chadra) for 22 Square (Chadra) which includes both interior and exterior painting, window and door painting and polishing (main, pooja, 3 frames and two windows). But I feel both the square estimation and the price quote are high considering below inputs.

Mine is two floor duplex house on 30X45 plot, with 12X12 Parking area and open terrace (12X10) covered by pergola and open balcony (12&8) covered by pergola on the first floor on top of that entire road (30 feet) facing area (front side) is of stone cladding and no painting is required.

please suggest me on negotiating this quote. also request you to share the contact details of any other good and not so expensive painters you know.

Thanks in advance

I am assuming this excludes the paint material. You can safely consider 150 sq.ft/ 1 litre for paint material cost for normal coat.
Usually i have come across Rs. 8 /sq.ft for external painting and Rs. 10-12/sq.ft for internal painting per coat.

Yes this quote is only for Labour excludes paint material. Could you please tell me the labour charges alone for painting.

If he is a good and reliable painter (professional) then this should be okay. If he reduces 10K then it would be great.

Do not do 2 coats on external walls right away. Do 1 coat and wait for atleast 3-6 months as any poor work will easily show up (i.e. cracks, poor finish) and then you can patch better. Ideally wait for few bouts of rain to check the durability of the finish.

From the looks of it, he reduced it by 20,000 from overall price. A very good painter will never reduce this much.

@bloremanager

I have offered the work to another person (from the reference of this forum members) because I felt the first one was quoting too high.

Yes as you rightly said I am planning for one coat only. Somebody suggested me to go with Asia paint Apex Ultima Protek base coat(Instead of primer) and top coat. you have any feedback about it.

Thanks,
Pratap

Hi Ravi,

I am constructing in SV Layout, Basavanapura close to KR Puram and Hoodi.

Our painter is just started and I would like to see his efficiency before referring to others but my first impression was he is professional. Meanwhile I will PM his details.
