Beam cutting for waste pipe for sunken bathroom

Post by sanchitnis »

Hi,
I have sunken bathrooms, where bottom of the slab is aligned with bottom of the beams. Now the plumber says that he needs to cut the beam for waste water pipe as no bricks were inserted in the beam while casting the mould. My question is will it affect the strength of the beam, as diameter is considerable. Also, how much does it cost for this?

I had to pay 500 per hole, off which 50% was borne by plumber.

Hi,
Leaving the bricks while casting the beam doesn't work unless the plumber is sure about the pipe line and the toilet layout .Since the plumber is not in the picture while casting the slabs its difficult to coordinate and many time the location they give turns out useless and then they make another hole in the beam.

Making a hole in the beam is no harm unless the structural guy is aware of the toilet locations ,many times steel designs are done by structural guys with out knowing these critical things .
You can use core cut services that is charged 800- 900 approx per hole , in core cut machine you get a clean and neat hole .
