kitchen counter top material
We had planned to use the regular black granite for kitchen counter since I read here light colored ones absorb more and are retain stains. But I saw many white and cream colored counters on display in many ready made modular kitchen displays. So just wanted to check what material is used here and how it compares to black granite tops.

Black Granite is one of the option , Black Granite is predominantly available in 40mm in india(perhaps the only natural stone (leaving kadapa) in India that is cut in that size), Since its black ,visibly, stains do not look up on black surface , hence it is sold unsealed and hence its popular. Architecturally Kitchen counter should be eye catching and stunning, why would you limit yourself to only black color and compromise the looks .Black for :: conservative people.
If you are ok with 20 mm Granite(with good support backing underneath), you have plenty of wonderful shades and patterns available(lighter ones too). if Properly sealed(good epoxy) after polishing , it will not absorb stains. All over the world people use marble , Glass , Cement , Soap stone, Corian(DuPont), Natural Hard Wood ,Quartz(Engineered marble\Granite) ,HPL laminate. Coffee\tea \Oil \Weak acid\alkali spills ,light butchering on regular basis can be easily sustained by the above materials if properly sealed.
Having said that there are myriad options and people use them.

We checked out 2 other options in addition to Black granite. Both these are costlier options.
1. Quartz; I think around 400-500 per sft. You will get this only as a full piece and hence there may be additional wastage. Does not take scratches as per the vendor. I heard varying versions about stain absorption. Found this in Bannerghatta road after diary circle opposite hilltop.
2. Corian; I think around 800-100 per sft. Looks stunning and one can get in any size they want. Corian requires rebuffing to remove scratches every 4-5 years.
We finally went with black granite the 'safe' and easy to maintain option.

I'm renovating my kitchen and have been able to salvage the old 20mm granite on the counter almost entirely. But I still need to buy some extra small amount ( 2'x5' 20mm for kitchen counter top & 2'x3' 30mm for sink). My granite guy is saying go to Banaswadi and get it. Any recommendations folks on specific shops? Please? Am concerned that they'll sell me inferior quality as I need so little. Appreciate all help & advice I can get. Thanks!
