No clarity on when this sand issue will be resolved. Instead of paying exorbitant rates for river sand, better go for Robo sand which comes in 3 qualities - air wash, water wash and plastering. Even mix of river sand and robo sand can be considered. For concrete purposes, branded RMC companies like ACC, Ultratech are a better option.

Heard from un official sources that the Tamil Nadu sand issue will get resolved by may 1 as there is a lot of pressure on tamilnadu and Karnataka govt from the builders and lorry associations.

Re: Shortage of TamilNadu Sand
hi friends any updates on the sand problem? have the prices reduced now? thought would check here before checking with my contractor.
Re: Shortage of TamilNadu Sand
I went looking for Trichy Sand in Hebbal Stand for plastering work, couldnt find any in last two days. I guess I would rather wait than use Filter or Msand. Any suggestion guys if I stand better chance if i go to hosur road or mysore road. The work has completely stopped for few weeks now.

Muthu , if you are not gone for a full contract then u better go with manaufactured/Robo sand as there is no guarentee on when sand will be available.I beleive its time for all home builders to make it a part of the contract on what needs to happen if there are such issues with sand.
If there is nothing mentioned in contract then the contractor is legally bound to use any sand or else he will stop the construction which will be an issue for the owner not the contractor as you would have gone for heavy home loans etc.
I beleive its a time we make a switch to manaufactured sand and robo sand similar to the switch we made from using limestone mortar.
River sand wont be available for long and whats the guarentee that they havent mixed it with sea sand.

Re: Shortage of TamilNadu Sand
I am planning to go robo sand for all cement work except. For plastering work bcoz its less cost and readily availability with accurate measurements.

Re: Shortage of TamilNadu Sand
is there a problem with using Msand for plastring ? i heard from one of my neighbour around an year back that there is one contractor quoting a bit less price for chadra and using entirely Msand.
Re: Shortage of TamilNadu Sand
You can go for m sand for plastering with out any issues. In fact the strength and finishing will be better with m sand.
Re: Shortage of TamilNadu Sand
I don't think manufactured sand (msand) is in anyway superior than natural river sand. If it was superior why people were using river sand for plastering? The talks about m sand for plastering came up only after the shortage/price hike of river sand. My neighbor used msand for plastering 2 months back and now it has many cracks. Finishing is like river sand only. I had almost decided to go ahead with alternatives like msand or bharathi plastering sand, but after seeing my neighbour's house I decided to proceed with river sand only.
Today I bought trichy sand 10 wheeler, body level load about 440cft for 60k. It was a good buy compared to others who were quoting 65k-80k.
