Names in Sanskrit and Local Language are loosely coined (Non Scientific) and often confusing. Thanks to Linneaus and binomial nomenclature. So many tree genus yield hardwood with same Grains and Red tannin similar to honne. You can get them for less than 800 Rs / Cft. Question is which one of this you got.

The Superior Honne(Kempu Honne) is Pterocarpus Marsupium , which is rare and expensive and endangered. (of the same genus as Padauk)
Australian \ Newzealand \ Malaysian \ Southeast asian Honne (also called as Kwila\Merbau) : Intsia Bijuga , Intsia Palembanica , this is mostly imported and sold and has superior properties and are similar to Indian Honne. Available in 2000\ cft range.

all of these are referred as "Local Honne", They are inferior in characteristics to superior Honne.
Betta Honne : Ougenia dalbergiodis
Shri Honne \ KallHonne : Callophyllum decipiens
Hole Honne : Callophylum Wightianum
Sura Honne : Callophylum tomentosum \ Callophylum Innophyllum

Nivas,

Thanks for your inputs, you rock like a wood scientist. Though your suggestions can be put into practice if
we get into this business day-in-dayout. Some one should visit with you and record a video on selecting the
wood.

Thanks again.

Thanks it is very encouraging .
You can see many amazing timber trees in full life and glory in Lalbagh (Ebony \ Lignum Vitae\ Local Honne \ Rosewood \ Padauk \ Mahogony \ Acacias) Etc and many more interesting local species. I will see if I can post the GPS coordinates.
IWST has a xylarium, there is a course in field identification of timber at IWST offered to interested. Online xylarium could be of better use to public , but we don't have one.

You had a question regarding Second Burma teak for Shutters , It is actually called Scantlings, It is imported from Myanmar in Tonnes
(like firewood) and sold in cft here. These are off cuts. (These will come in shutter dimensions). Even these scantlings are graded, but their grading and classification is complex. You can definitively use for Shutters and works out cheaper than honne, Going further the price can be brought down by providing finger jointed scantling.

Hi all,

Please suggest me what wood is best (out of red sal, white sal, honne, teak-last option etc)
for
1) Door frames
2) Window frames
3) Window shutter

thanks in advance,
Prince

honne, gumsal, redsal, whitesal in that order. whatever the wood type, ensure it is seasoned well.
it is ordered so based on density, gumsal is placed high because its resinous.
