Re: Home interior work advice
Dear members,
I'm interested to know the basis for measurement of interior work done like wardrobes, kitchen cabinets etc. Last year we got wardrobes done through a carpenter. He did box type wardrobes and calculated the sft including the carcass. For example if we have 3'x6' wardrobe, it is not considered as 18 sft for charging the labour. Instead the depth of the wardrobe was also calculated. Our architect & structural consultant told us that our carpenter has cheated because everyone simply calculate the size of the wardrobe to quote the labour per sft. We ended up paying 40k labour for wardrobes in 2 bedrooms.
Now I'm constructing a duplex house and wanted to be doubly sure what members mean when they got quotes on sft basis. Please help.
Regards,
Praveen

Re: Home interior work advice
Hi,Praveen
Measurements for wood work is only taken in the elevation ,depth is not considered at all (across the world ).Few things that your need to under the labor pricing in wood work before you commit to carpenters
1.Box work cost per sft (wardrobes ,storages etc)
2.Kitchen box work ( kitchen with baskets fixing inclusive )
3. Paneling ( adding laminate or veneer for walls with ply backing )
4.Framed panneling ( adding laminate or veneer for walls with 3" framing and ply backing)
5. Ceiling pannels ( adding laminate or veneer to ceiling with ply backing)
6. Lofts ( shutters with frame inside )
Any extra costs involved as per your design .Never consider carpenter will accommodate all you are considering .They will charge you for every extra item we are asking for ,one or other way they will take money .Rather get that clarity in the beginning and proceed
