Difference between estimated & actual quotes for excavation

Hi All,

My contractor in his initial quote had said - he will dig/excavate upto 5 feet.
Later i negotiated to go till 8 feet without extra. For which he agreed.
in Contract none of us - have mentioned anything apart from this.
My neighbours all are saying they went upto 15 feet.

So assume if i dig upto 12 feet depth. Do i need to pay EXTRA for
- only 4 feet digging/filling or
- i will be charged against - Digging/filling + Sand + aggreagte + Steel ?

My take is that you would have to pay only the difference amount.

Why would you need 15ft excavation? Did you get soil testing done and determine the depth from structural engineer?
