Choosing wood for Doors and Windows.

Post by ramki067 »

Hi,

We are in the stage of choosing wood for doors and windows tomorrow. We are thinking of going for already cut ready wood at a timber shop in timber layout, Mysore road. We are looking for Burma teak for Main door and Pooja door with frames, rest windows and inner house door frames are of honne wood. Also is honne better or red sal better?
Thereby, please provide me some inputs on how to go about shopping for wood like what color we need to look for in wood for both teak and honne and how to go about it.

Thanks in advance.

@ramki067,

I have seen many using Red Sal frmes + Honne shutters. Works out cheaper than all Honne windows. It seems both Honne and Sal have to be painted and Sal is supposed to be stronger than Honne/Teak.

My knowledge is limited to what is read on internet and forum - confirm with your architect and carpenter before deciding on this.

Please post the prices for whatever you buy in cut sizes.

Been to timber yard on Tuesday. After looking at the prices of burma teak [4600 to 5000] its
a bomb to buy so, suggestion is to buy if it is really necessay.

Since it is in ground floor and there is no much wheather changes we gone to white Sal and Hone.
Both needs to be painted and needs to be taken.

Only Teak and Acasia will take polish, rest needs paint

White Sal - 1275
Austrialn Hone - Main Door Frame - 1400/cubic feet

Thanks to Girish for his post on calculating wood requirement.

Bhagawan Sawmills

Just a small correction:
- Honne costed me around Rs2095.
- Vat is only on 60% of the total Amount.

I brought it from Bhagwan Timbers who claims to be a wholesale distributor. The timber is located at RR Gate.
