Type of Steel Material

Post by krishna.charugundla »

Hi,
Can someone throw light on the type of Steel to be used.

When i compared the products from different manufacturers

1) Tata Tiscon 500D ( Sulphur + Phosphorous - 0.070, Yield Stress - n/mm2 - 540, Tensile Strength(n/mm2) - 600
2) Indus 500 X TMT ( Sulphur + Phosphorous - 0.011, Yield Stress - n/mm2 - 545, Tensile Strength(n/mm2) - 600
3) Apple Gold 500D ( Sulphur + Phosphorous - 0.010, Yield Stress - n/mm2 - (520 ~ 565), Tensile Strength(n/mm2) - (630 ~ 730)

I see the specification are almost similar but there is a variance of prices
Tata Tiscon 500D (55000/Ton)
Indus 500 X TMT (51400/Ton)
Apple Gold 500D (50000/Ton) - (seems for this the Tensile Stregth & Yield Stress is good)

Apple Gold 500D seems to be Cost effective. let me know your views

Regards
Krishna

Hi

only tata is the primary producer and adhere to the indian quality standards with in the brands you had mentioned. I was surprised to know from civil aid reports that Indus and Apple gold both fail in chemical tests though the companies don't accept it.

There are equivalent brands with great quality also that are available in market for a reasonable price. Try them, I can suggest you if u want

Hi,
Tata is insanely expensive. When somebody makes claims like "only tata is the primary producer and adhere to the indian quality standards" one has to be very careful. We have used Indus for our project and found it to be very good material. Any TMT manufacturer who has ISI certification should be good enough.
Thanks & Regards,

Hi vimal,

I told tata as the primary manufacturers of the steel because they do it from billets. While Indus is a rerolled plant that has failed miserably in chemical tests. FYI I am telling you that 80 to 90 percent of the brands pass physical test while the same 80 percent fail in chemical tests. Unfortunately people out of ignorance sees only what is shown to them. If u really appreciate is codes then you would accept what I am telling you.

Pathetic situation is getting isi is not difficult in India for any quality of brand. You believe me or not but this is the hard fact, just wanted to tell you because it would be really helpful for many people who would value quality in real terms. By the way, let me tell you, it is not only tata that is adhering to IS standards, there are others companies like tulsyan, kamachi etc which you get at a far better price competitive to indus but since you had asked me to suggest between tata, Apple gold and indus, I picked it.

Regards

Vijay
