Has anyone used Mangalore tiles or equivalent for roof elevation? Are there any branded tiles in this segment? Do they have various color choices and is it easy to repaint them?
Any shops in south bangalore that anyone can recommend?

Re: roof tiles
Has anyone used Monier cement tiles for roof? I am discussing with http://modernenterprises.biz/ and he was mentioning that discoloration will not happen in cement tiles unlike clay tiles. Cost was around 39 Rs/sq feet.

Re: roof tiles
Hi,
That's true with cement tiles that discoloration doesn't happen. But the weight of the tile is quite heavy and the thermal properties are same like rcc.gets heated quickly and transfers heat to interiors.

Re: roof tiles
Thanks, Praveen.
Also found out that though discoloration does not happen easily for cement tiles, it will fade slowly and get discolored after 20-25 years. It is not possible to repaint the cement tiles.
Mangalore tiles do have an issue that it needs to be repainted every 5 years and may get algae etc. But it is easy to find replacement a single tile at a time and it is also less heavy.
I have decided to go with Poruguese design (Mangalore like) clay tiles from Modern Enterprises, Jayanagar as we also did not get the color of our choice in Moniker.
Cost was 9.5 Rs per tile of size 8 X 5 inches (one needs 4 tiles for one sq feet- hence approx 38 Rs per sq feet). Cost varies from 9 to 10 Rs per tile for various designs.
Traditional Mangalore tiles are cheaper and cost from 14 -28 per tile for size 9 X 13 but we wanted something more fancy.

Re: roof tiles
Hi:
I have used Mangalore tiles in my house in Jayanagar. I had made a post here asking about certain safety aspects which I have explored over the last 2 years. The post may be of interest and i also would like to know your assessment of the same.
