Standard Pergola Dimension

Post by tendlu »

what is the standard dimension for a pergola - for a square based one. I am looking for the height and thickness.

Engineer is suggesting 1'6" height and 2.5" thickness for one square in the pergola. any comments on this?

I doubt if there is any standard, you can make your choice based on the load the structure can bear and the looks.

thanks ravi.

the pergola is more for the looks than any structural value in this case.

given the entire running feet of the pergola is only 20ft, would like to know how would be a reasonable height for the pergola. any recommendation based on experience or insights?

It seemed like 1'6" would be too much though for the height for looks.

The height can be somewhere about 6.5 to 7 feel high. The dimensions for the pieces looks too heavy. I think it should be reduced.
