Ceiling electrical point misaligned

HI All,

We had the molding 15days back and we found that ceiling points are not correctly placed (misaligned by 1 feet). When asked electrician says it can be moved by groove cutting the ceiling and he will fix a temporary plate in the older point (all main points connected here) which will be visible on ceiling which we don't insist as it looks very bad. Do we have any other options other than this ?

By moving the ceiling, what are the impacts ?

Eagerly waiting for some experts opinion.

I am afraid you cannot change the positions of electrical points in RCC so easily .Electrician say they can but its not recommended unless must.
Since the cover slab thickness is 25 to 30 mm you cannot run a pvc conduit in that thickness they run the wire open .See if you can do something in interior design like false ceiling or wooden ceiling .

That's just crappy work by your electrician and cutting the newly laid roof is not advisable I guess. More often than not there are no skilled 'experts' to do such jobs and its just a layman without experience who's asked to do such jobs by the mesthri or the contractor. This ends up messing up an individuals home and wasting the owners money.

Laying PVC conduits and plastering the roof again might be an option but have heard (and seen) that cracks develop after a while at the boundary of a PVC conduit. Do check with other experts and share your experience.

Thank you both Praveen and Ani. My contractor says he will run electrical wires inside the PVC pipe, conceal it in the ceiling and do plastering so that it will not be visible in the ceiling. But i am concerned about the maintenance in future where i have to chip in that part for any problems. I am thinking of dropping this movement of point due to cracks that might be seen later and adjustments required. Your response will add lot of values.

We changed our room plan after all the slabs were done; and ceiling fan points were obviously off. So, electrician had to cut a groove, put a S hook and run wire in a flat conduit from the original point. In a different room, new fan point was adjacent to existing conduit. So, there was no problem.

If chipping the slab is anyway inevitable, it makes sense to delay until the walls are done, cup-board locations finalized and the electrician actually does the wiring.

I wanted anchor bolt, but electrician was adamant in using S hook, which involved more chipping to locate a slab rod. In my parents' house, we have a single swing fixed using anchor bolt since 12 years. So, anchor bolts are pretty strong and require just a small 18mm hole to be drilled and the bolt twisted inside.

flat conduit didn't require much chipping. So, looked ok. regular pipe would've required more.

closing original point - it will get covered by POP false ceiling. So, I was not worried
