My Dream House Construction Experience
Re: My Dream House Construction Experience
@ sahu, thanks for the feed back, I mean it is electrical conduits lay out plan in the roof.
Guys, Today we did roofing and as you all know it's with RMC.
Here are some details and pics for you to comment on.
# Concrete Grade is M20 ( what is ordered by my builder) Not sure what is actual grade arrived at site, no test cube made to ascertain, when asked for the same no proper answer from the writer or JE ,who were at the site.
# thickness of roof 5.5" and they keep measuring it regularly with some simple technique. A bonding wire tied to a 8mm rod at 5.5''.
# pumping machine and guys arrived at 5.30 am, did set up by 6.00 am ,concrete arrived at around 7.00am in three transit mixers. started pouring with in 10 mints of its arrival. it,s all over by 8.30 AM.Concrete use is around 16 cubic meters.
# vibrator is used at beams and pillars extensively and lightly at other plain roof surface.
# Police promptly arrived, and you can guess what happens next.
# Human resource present at the site as follows.
Senior Engineer ( over seeing the whole process)
Junior Engineer ( checking everything in detail and guiding them constantly)
Mastery ( two numbers, brothers, one guiding his staff and other overseeing and guiding the shuttering fellows )
Writer ( ensuring the pump and transit mixer arrives in time and he took care of police also, you know what i mean)
Mastery assistants six persons, who were spreading , filling and leveling it .and also using vibrator now and then.
Shuttering guys two persons: I think they were the busiest of the all, doing continuously adjustments,as concrete poured and vibrator used they need tighten the shuttering supports.
Electrician : one person, he is there to make sure electrical conduits and other fittings are intact and in place with no damage or breakage while concreteing .
Pesonnel from RMC company totally around 8 ,doing their work routinely, pumping the concrete ,stopping it when told, adding water when told , removing the supply pipes and adjusting them as work progresses.
Last but not least me and my son watching the whole show,it's a nice experience to us as this was our first construction project.
# the final step is ,we served good and full breakfast to all the workers, and i think that gave us more satisfaction and happiness than anything else.
OMG, let me stop, people don't have time and patience to read so much

Re: My Dream House Construction Experience
wow that's a lot . I asked ACC 2 weeks back and they had said 3800 in Bommasandra. In addition to this from your photo it looks like you are using 8 rods of 12 mm dia for your pillars for a 3 floor building am i correct ?
Re: My Dream House Construction Experience
@ausraja, The exact price of RMC is Rs4000/cubicmeter,that includes all taxes, transportation,Pumping ,all inclusive. we paid 64000 for 16 cubic meters. And the basic price around 3650. the company which supplied RMC is Hitech Cements Pvt Ltd,Kanakapura rd.hope this helps.
Guys, today we went around Mysore road timber yard to have look at the Teak wood,we visited nearly four to six reputed saw mills like SLV, Patel, Venkateshwara, Umaiya etc.,. The prices for burma teak is are around 3000 to 3500 for CFT with logs of girth (perimeter) 5 to 7ft. Most probably we will be finalizing on Wednesday and place the order.I will let you know the exact price and supplier.

conz KVS setty for getting ur roofing done.
Even I too had my roofing done yesterday. And regarding to the Teak Wood.
I had purchased burma teak @ price of Rs 3225 for 1 sal. I got it done @jalaram woods, kottigepalya as my carpenter was having his workshop there only.
And I went for red sal for window and others which costed me Rs 1150. I think you should have place the windows and door before only bcz you get good grip if u get it laced before.
And mysore road timber is a good place to buy

KVS setty conz on getting ur roofing done and for how mant days are u planning to leave the roof for curing and also which cement(43 or 53 grade) did the RMVC peope use ?
Re: My Dream House Construction Experience
@ausraja : No idea which cement they have used, when I asked the same question to my Senior Engineer ,he said they use ACC.
when I asked JE ,he said Coramendal King 53 grade, the same one we are using at our site for all the other work.
Before pumping the actual concrete mix, they pumped one of bag cement with water ,that bag of cement is ACC ( I don't know the purpose of this step, still wondering about it )
Whom to trust
Infact we asked the builder to order CEMENT only RMC with no GGBS,but I can make out from the color of concrete that it's not 100% cement only RMC,definitely with some GGBS ,does not know exact % of GGBS.
As for as curing ,I would say till sand strike ends, as we have no sand to start any work except bar bending guy rising the pillar rods.

Re: My Dream House Construction Experience
Hello to All,
This post would have been before my two previous posts, some how missed it
As I said earlier the roofing was complete by 9 am on that day , and i went to the site again around 4pm to have a look at the roof, to my surprise i could see some hair line cracks at few places (see the pics below), immediately i called JE and informed about it, he along with mastery were present at the site with in 5mints and they said on seeing the cracks, nothing to worry about it,it is quite normal, the crack is just 2 to 3mm deep only and it happens every where even with on site concreting.
mastery , in fact removed some concrete and showed that it is just 2 mm deep.
Now my question is , is this normal and happens to all ? your feed back and comments are most welcome.
Do I need to take any correction measures from leakage and strength point of view ?
Next day the cracks have gone, How? they just repaired it by just widening it and putting some pure cement only mortar at all the places.
The second pic (middle one) is taken just few inches from the surface, so it looks like huge crack though its a hair line one.The other two shots are from about my chest level.

I could not understand your statement " you should have place the windows and door before only bcz you get good grip if u get it laced before"
Did you mean windows and doors should be placed before roof slab......Can you clarify?
