within 6 months, another sand suppliers/lorry strike.

But I see plenty of Sand Loaded Trucks arriving and departing near Mysore Road-Ring Road(BSK Side- Before Nice Road )Junction and other areas like Devi Nagar, Hebbala. If there is real strike for genuine reasons, why/how do these sand loaded trucks arrive and Depart everyday routinely from these junctions. I feel its just to create artificial scarcity and making quick money by vested Interest.

If sand is available, why then my builder is suggesting to go for RMC instead of on site mixing of RMC, though it costs more for him ?
Earlier we had planned for regular on site mixing of RMC and scheduled for friday for roofing, but now due to this strike we had to change our plans by switching to RMC and rescheduled to saturday.

My contractor has stopped purchasing sand since the strike. I repeatedly asked him to dump sand beforehand but he didn't do so. Now project is stopped untill the strike. Any idea as to when the strike will be called off?

Same with me. He is saying work will start only after sand strike called off. Don't know what to do.

Getting even robo sand has become difficult due to high demand. I have been calling them up for the last 1 week.

What a shame... every 3 months this problem recurs...

But my question is that these strikes are not out of the blue and the contractors who take up our projects should also have a contingency plan for these eventualities. Now my contractor is saying that the contract terms have to be redrawn. My question is "Is this behaviour justified from the contractors"? Shouldn't the contractors stick to the contract when they are already earning handsome profits.

As there is no transparency in contract system expect specification. price escalation is bound to happen. if it is affecting cost contractor and owner to sit across the table and finalize the alternate method which will not affect quality and cost. But this doesn't happen bcz at he time of awarding work every body only negotiate on cost without pro an cons. Now when such crisis comes contractor try to take advantages of the situation to correct his negotiated price . So at he time of contract awarding a special clause to be added to short out such issue.

I don't think so. A recent news item on Jan 1, 2014 does not mention anything about the strike ending.

Hi,

What i heard from my Engineer is that the strike wont end before sankaranthi. From 11th Jan, other lorry associations could join the strike to intensive the protest but Govt doesn't seems to be panic. My house construction is held up for the past 3 weeks.
