Hi All,

I am facing this particular issue now. I have a site in a layout and one of its owners(supposedly educated Software engineer) has constructed a house in his site in the same layout. His builder has constructed the laborers shed infront of my site. As good neighbors we did not object thinking that as we will be neighbours we all should cooperate and get along. Now that he has completed his construction he has made a mess infront of my site (after clearing the Shed) . When we requested him to clear the mess that they had created, he is talking rules to me stating that there is no need to ask any site owner to build a Shed, and he will talk to the builder and see when he can clear the mess. He also goes to the extent what is the hurry to clear the mess, you are not living there. He also goes to threaten me stating that calm down else I will not do the work. I wish I could have recorded the conversation that transpired, it would have been very interesting for all of you. He goes on to say that he us very busy. What nonsense!!! All of us are busy...he does not realise that:
1) Keeping my decency I still allowed him to construct a shed infront of my site
2) Though that road was blocked by his shed we still did not object
3) Now there is so much garbage infront of my site and he does not have the decency to even talk properly, speaks like a rowdy(which I sweetly told him).
4) We with a mindset that we all need to live in the locality and need to live like good human beings is our mistake.

I have heard that pigs like to always like to stay in garbage and I have also seen in Bangalore(elsewhere also) that folks keep their houses clean inside but their surroundings dirty. Folks with commonsense should realize that they will get affected if their surrounding are not kept clean.

I spoke to the builder and he seems to be reasonable and I also came to know that the owner has not even called him to tell him to clear the mess(I had informed the owner last week).

How do we deal with such Educated Rowdies? Do we even call them educated?

Please advise. Have attached 2 pics of the "PLEASING SIGHT" that i get as and when I go visit my site.

cheers

Hi Bidappa,
I agree with you one should have maturity and responsibility for his actions .Person who has created the mess should be responsible in clearing the debris .We are all educated and shouldn't get pointed by others.

This is the attitude of majority of Indians, which hurts the small percentage of good people.
We can't call everyone as educated, just b'cos they studied XYZ Level or Hold some degree
certificate. Only when they apply their knowledge/thoughts into their action in real life, they'll be
recognized as educated/matured/civilized....etc & earn their respect. Once our work is complete,
we do not care for others inconvenience or about the side effects caused by our action.

Please do care for others feelings & Safety Concern.

Biddappa: Wait for reasonable time to clear the garbage by the builder & if necessary, remind them
again. If you do not see any action by the owner/builder, You can show them how they feel the same,
once you start your construction. Hope they realize their mistake later.

Biddappa : Your's so call neighbor did a bad to you. Dont get upset and get quarry with him, this cleaning of garbage will cost few hundreds, if he is not clean better do it your self. Once you pick up the quarry for this small thing when you are construction your neighbor can give lots of trouble because no one in bangalore can follow the rules while construction and he can take all kinds of task to trouble.

Myself i had a personal experience on this kind of issue. initially i though i have won my neighbor and later too many trouble were invited. Better leave this matter if you have a idea to construct there. if you dont have a idea to construct then take your neighbor for a ride.

Hi guys,
Before I comment on this scenario (which is very small issue),any one has plans to construct in your own site don't keep quite if the Neighbour is voilating rules how good he may be.I am not asking to go on fight with them.make an mutual agreement written that if he violates ,he has no problem in case u violate the rules latter.write in the paper that he violated and he is ok with your violation .
The above scenario is ok only if feel u will violate rules later.

Biddappa give your Neighbour some time.poor guy would have been already struggling with contractor ,timelines, money what not.
If he doesn't respond ,don't worry pick the entire stuff and dump right in front of his car gate .when u build your home you can show him how a good Neighbour will be.

Thank you all . Appreciate all your replies. Very happy to hear from all of you that we are need to stick to cleanliness.

My policy, live and let live. We have one life to live, live happily with others, healthily. One thing I have realized that there are some people who think that if the other person is docile(may be for various reasons due to decency, want to cooperate with everyone) they take them for granted. If you would have read my mail you would have realized that I have gone the decent way for which he has no regard. Imagine guys, he really does not care for the other site members, he just wants to get the work done. This is really careless attitude.

Praveen, you just reflected my thoughts :) I do not want to take unnecessary tension. I am supposed to do a Puja in my site this Saturday and have informed the owner last week. If that gets postponed, I will remove that garbage and dump it in front of his site. Do we really need neighbors like this? :)

Once again thank you all for your replies.

Most everyone in India needs to learn civility and civic sense. Educated people - what exactly does it mean to be educated, it does not just mean a "literate person". One of the important reference said that 21st century education has 4 important orientations: learn to know, learn to do, learn to be and learn to live together.

LIke someone already said most people only care about their property - whether it be home, car or whatever, and ignore the surroundings, failing to realize the entire surroundings is part of their property. If they cannot manage to keep that clean and livable, then they are the ones to suffer the consequences.

I disagree with the advice of you returning the trash back to his home. Just think about it, you are going to live right next to him for at least a few years (if your house is being constructed there). How would you live peacefully, if this back and forth continues. When you are constructing, you will have laborers, and your construction material etc, which he is going to give you constant headaches about. Instead, just get it cleaned yourself, but make a production, so he sees that you did it. This way, he will have no face to come back and complain about anything to you and you can continue your construction and life in future in relative peace.

Biddappa, a question just out of curiosity, no offence intended:
you wrote "My policy, live and let live. We have one life to live, live happily ..........".
Why do you say one life to live.
