Carpenter charges and wood rates

Hi

My house construction is at a point where we need to start the wood work for the doors and windows. I have spoken to a carpenter who is quoting about Rs. 200 per sft as the labor charges for door frames and windows (frame + shutter). Is this a reasonable rate? Also since I am planning to go for flush doors (manufactured) how should the labor rate be calculated for making the door frames (is it just the frame part or should the shutter area be included as well)?

Also here are the rates of wood I plan to use (got rough rates from a local timer yard):

Saal (red): 1050 / cft
Honne: 1950 / cft
Teak: 3300 / cft

Are the above wood rates fine? How much discount can I expect if I shop at Mysore road timer yards?

Finding good carpenters is hard but 200 rs / sqft sounds a bit high. The rates I have seen are
30 rs per sqft - door
18 rs per sqft - window
Windows might vary based on type - French or simple.
Nails, planing , fevicol cost is extra.

Flush door fixing charges should be bare min.


The wood rates seem reasonable may be 50 - 100 rs diff in terms of discount.

Thanks for the reply Arjun. Wow! the rates I got are almost 10x higher. Something is not alright. I need to seriously reconsider the carpenter.
And are you sure rates you have quoted are not for RFT (running feet)?

Hi Arjun,

Its seems you have considered only the frame charge for door (30rs) & window (18rs). I think now running rate will ( frame + shutter) be for 100 - 130 Rs for window.

Main door shutter-120 rs
door frame - 15rs
window frame - 30rs
flush door fixing - 600rs
window shutter plain - 80 rs
window french shutter - 100 rs

window frame - 25rs/psft including fixing bright rods
flush door fixing - 30rs/psft

Is this reasonable ?

its quiet reasonable except window shutter plain
my carpenter quoted quiet high for door frames n fixing flush door rs 70 and window frame n plain shutter + fixing rs85 and he is not reducing further
now im planing to change
n enquired in few places

flush door fixing rs600/door
wiindow frame shutter 60 n above
