Hi sam,
Using sal wood for shutters will bend ( since the thickness is small) ,the quantity of wood required for shutters will be just about 20% of total wood quantity. So the savings you make by using sal wood is very marginal.window frames consume major quantity of wood than shutters.
Using teak wood will help you to avoid bends, glass breaking, cracks in wood .

Re: Having Window shutters with Sal wood?
After seeing my current rental house's state of wood doors and windows, shutting problems, warpage, cracks etc. and it is all supposed to be "teak wood" , I have decided to use fiber doors (fimen) and steel doors, steel grill and fenesta UPVC for windows. As little wood as possible.
Re: Having Window shutters with Sal wood?
thanks for all suggestions, and was thinking for going for Honne wood.
Re: Having Window shutters with Sal wood?
Sal wood for shutters is not a good idea at all. If you don't want to go with Teak then go with Honne. Acasia is also an option.
