Which UPS is better ?

Hello ,

I am planning to go for a UPS in my new house. Is APC or SUKAM better ? I was planning for APC 800VA Pure Sine Wave Model, listed below. But my friend says Sukam is also equally good but with better service than APC. If you have any idea about this or can suggest better brand, please help.

I have been using Sukam Falcon-i 800VA inverter for past 3 years and haven't faced any issue. When my inverter was out of warranty, there were two times when the fuse assembly got blasted due to short circuit in the home wiring. The service guys showed up the same day or next day and fixed it. The service guy tried to sell me some AMC (annual maintenance contract?) and I refused.

APC is manufactured in B'lore. So I would think that their service is also good.

For the battery, please don't go with SMF (sealed maintenance free) battery. My battery promptly was gone in less than 20 months. So 11-12k down the drain in less than 20 months. Well in that sense it doesn't require any maintenance because it suffers an early death

I replaced my Sukam SMF battery with EXIDE 150AH IT500 battery (http://www.exide4u.com/exide/JSP/master ... ubular.htm). Slightly expensive but 4 years warranty takes care of the risk of money going down the drain. I bought it from a dealer in Jayanagar 4th Blk and his price was much better than others I had called up - including the Exide sales number provided by office. The same guy helped me to get a good deal for my Santro battery from his friend's shop. While the Hyundai service center wanted to sell me a 6k battery with lot more (unnecessary) capacity, this dealer was able to get me exact spec battery costing 3.6k all inclusive of door step replacement. Thanks a lot girishd. Was your Sukam a Pure Sine Wave one ? Which dealer did you buy it from ? Also if you remember the cost, please share it.

I am using Sukam inverter + Exide Battery and using it since last 3 years. No issue except the fuse which sometimes needs to be replace which you can from your local electric shop costing < 10 Rs. The dealer service has also been good and no issues so far. I got it from a Malleshwaram dealer although I stay in JP Nagar as he had offered the best rate at that time.

Though APC is a bigger American co, I read several reviews that their post-sale support is pathetic. Hence I decided not to go for APC India.

(I have used APC at work projects for ~10years without much problems)

Yes its a pure sine wave inverter and I think it was 5.2k for the inverter 4 years back. Don't know what could be the prices now.
