wardrobe: Readymade or get done by carpenter
Hi All,
Need you feed back on selecting the wardrobe for house, which is better?
Is it better to have ready made wardrobe from hometown/houseful or get it done from carpenter by providing wood and etc...
Thanks and Regards,

Even am in the same confusion point. My brother has purchased Damro wardrobes, and cost wise, according to him , buying ready made is way better than carpenter made ones .Also the advantage is , later if something goes bad with the material , you may just replace it but with fixed wardrobes , its very difficult. Again, the position of these ready made ones, can be changed , to give new looks to the rooms. I am so far not aware of any disadvanateges of going with ready made ones. If any one has any suggesions, please share it.

We have a mix of Custom made and purchased wardrobes at our home, the custom made are fixed inside the wall and it goes with the my personal taste. Later i still purchased ready-made once since not all rooms have space for customer wardrobes inside walls. So i can move them if required.

I like the Elfa solutions available in Bengaluru for closets. Check out their website for ideas. http://www.containerstore.com/elfa/index.htm They have stores in Mantri Mall and a few other places.

Hi jackalbda
I really wonder if we can ever move a wardrobe once installed and if they can with stand .My personal opinion don't go for ready made stuff if you have an option to get it done with carpenter.I have seen best brands in ready made that cannot with stand Indian style usage.
Hinges gives away from wood in no time (if not used smoothly).Once hinges comes out of wood there is no way you can fix them back.
Even in carpenter made wardrobes you can change the colors after some time,if you go for veneer it can be re polished and give a brand new look (max one or two times depending up on quality of veneer)
The biggest problem with ready made is that they don't make it our requirement (say you have beam projection that need to be covered ).Other interior details like wall paneling, ceilings etc... cannot be matched exactly to ready made shades and finish.
Ready made are useful for quick occupancy of flats but not for individual homes.

Hi All,
I am also in the same dilemma.
Just bought a home to live in with kitchen woodwork(done).
running on a tight budget.
is it better to buy readymade wardrobes (use the money saved to repay homeloan hence reduce the interest n prinicipal)
and get woodwork done later.
or otherwise.
Please suggest.

Hi Avani,
As per my personal experience, dont go for readymade wardrobes or kitchen cabinets, They look fancy, expensive and they are not durable. you can hire a good carpenter and get things done, which last for longer. I did the same and I am happy with the work, materials used and it was within my budget.
If anyone are looking for a good carpenter. I can refer you, you can take a quotation from him, compare with others. you can also see the works done by him.
For carpenter details you can PM me.
Thanks,
Manjunath

Majority of the ready made ward robes looks attractively and cost effective. But their life is less. They uses click type clamps semi sliding Brackets which needs to be used very carefully daily. It doesn't withstand the rough and tough way of using. Also the partitions are placed on a metal hook which doesn't bear more weight. Over a period of time the joints get loosens and starts shaky and one fine day entire wardrobe may collapse.
