Is the proportion in case of PPC is different as we normally use M20 for roofing/pillar/beams etc ?

For plastering what is proportion, is it different from OPC?

this is what is quality of cement as per my research?

1. PPC - good with ash mixed but curing goes beyond 28 days so less crack/no crack can come

2. OPC 53 (Good but crack can happen so right proportion need to be added during moulding and less time as within 28 days it will get cured .

3. OPC 43 - This comes after PPC ,and durable as 53 can be used for roofing but compressible strength is little less than 53 in the 28 days, but will attain the same strength as 53.

In general all the above are good but the curing time is what is different ?.

Hi all,

its better to go with OPC.

the setting time with PPC is much longer. thats my exp in bangalore.

M20 , M25 etc depend on design, soil bearing capacity(SBC).

plastering proportions will be mostly similar.

My engineer also advised OPC 53 grade for all concreteing work, OPC 43 grade for brick masonry works
and PPC for plastering. OPC cement cures fast whereas PPC takes longer time.

' Birla super' is only a brand name for their 53 grade OPC cement. Similarly they have different names for their 43 grade OPC and PPC cement.

@sam_m400

it is always better to go for good branded cement 53 or 43 grade for m20 n m25 ther is no big diff in price wise ...initially i thouht to go for lower brands like kormandal ,zuari ,jaypee, ramco ...im using birla super 50 bags rs17250 i would have saved rs 500 to rs750 lesser brand cement thats all

for colums n roof go for good brand 53 grade cement

Thanks. I am planning to use 53 grade OPC which they call Birla Super for moulding/structures(Pillars/columns/Plith etc)

Is PPC good for plastering/footing/passages/flooring etc the better being suggested for PPC.

Can i go for Lower brand one (Ramco) PPC or you are all going with Birla PPC (Blended Birla cement) for that as well?

Super they are asking for 353 ,and Ultra asking for 343 and blended 333. How much price you got that? Ramco is giving discount of 10 to 20 Rs , but Birla not giving any discounts.

@sk1976: You are right ,they say Birla super equivalent to 53 OPC, Birla Ultra as 43 or 53 OPC, and Blended as PPC.

If I summarize this thread:

RCC - OPC 53 grade
Brick masonary - OPC 43 grade
Plastering - PPC

Is this correct? If so, what is the company/brand for each of the above?
