column raising problem

hi

i have a problem that during rasing columns my mestri always bend or twist 2 columns or pillars while installing the column box.

have u guys experienced the same thing while raising columns ?

wat is the solution for this n how to correct it?

Can you elaborate bit more on what you meant by twisting or bending? I have seen a similar problem in our house construction but I'm not sure ifs the same.

after ground level bed or every floors he has to raise the pillars till lintel level (7feet) n pillar should be in straight from ground to top floor right .. n he has done the marking according to plan n put the starter for colums n 2 pillars has moved by 2 inches in that case he has adjusted or bend the bottom pillar rods to adjust the difference n then he installed the box..so technically the pillar will not be straight from ground level to the last floor.

his explanation is that evry 1 will do like this slight difference will be ther coz after lintel level this diff will come now on first floor we r goin for cut lintel so now he will raise the colums to 9 feet to roof level n in second floor this diff will be corrected

i wanted to know that u guys exp the similar problem ?

can u guys tell me wher he went wrong n how to correct the problem any solution ?

Okay, we had EXACTLY the same problem and I noticed that yesterday. I had an argument with the contractor as the steel rods are shifter about 2 inches to one side when did the starter for the first floor. He gave the same reason as your contrator saying the columns are raised in 3-4 different levels in that particular column ( from base to plinth, plinth to starise case landing, landing to lintle and lintle to roof beam). I took him to my architect for the same reason. Architact will come inspect it on Friday. However, my architect was not surprised when I complained about this. He said little deviation is normal in those situations but we should not bend/kink the rods to make it straight. I'll keep you posted.

It is great damges to your structural stablity . Please have proper supervision by a proffessional while erecting columns and ensure it is alligned as per drawings

I have seen this happen in a couple of my columns too (Maybe in about 4-5 out of 14 colums). Though I didnt ask the Mason or the engineer about it, I think this is related to workmanship of the Mason and it could be a common occurance across individual house construction.

same here ....im just wondering wat will be the case in multi storied apartments n commercial buildings . it will be the same probs in that case ?

I too saw this problem and I found that every one does this. (Ideally should not be done).
However this process is similar to overlapping rods for the next floor where the new rods and bent and binded to the pillar rods.

Per my discussions with engineers and contractor, bending and adjusting these rods by 2 to 3 inches is not ok. Bending it by 1/2 or 1 inch is fine.

in ground floor he actually bend n binded the rods to pillar after uninstallin the box 1 rod is visible n after plasting also it will be seen n i told him that not to repeat but then he did the same thing in first floor

wat is the solution ?
how to avoid these mistakes in future ?
