UPVC WINDOW options
UPVC WINDOW options
Hi
I am planning to go for UPVC windows.
I need some info on various types .
I was told by contractor that Upvc windows allways comes with sliding type.
In my opinion this type blocks one half the window for air circulation .
Is there other type in UPVC wherein we can open both the shutters.
please clarify

Re: UPVC WINDOW options
UPVC windows come in all types. Casement - opening vertically, double hung - opening horizontally, sliding and fixed. You can get them customized to your window size. I have some fixed windows for closets and staircase, sliding for basement, casement for the remainder. Even the casement - there are many slightly different models - I have some that have 2 openable shutters side by side, there are some that have 2 shutters on either end with a fixed part in the center.
Check out the web sites of these companies and they talk about all the types available. Fenesta website lets you design it, pick your colors and check out how it looks. That would be the best way to envision it before you start the ordering process.

Yes, as informed by blrsiteseeker, UPVC Windows are available across all different form factors. There are many brands like LG Hausys, Tornfesnter, Wintech, Fensta etc. Always remember that many of the dealers take the customers for a ride with the prices. Even the best UPVC windows are available from Rs.450 to Rs.650 per sq.ft. Do not go overboard with the prices from what stories the dealers say. I am also going for UPVC windows for my house and the measurements will be taken only after plastering and one coat of paint. (Hopefully in Oct). I would recommend you to enquire different sources before negotiating on the costs.

Re: UPVC WINDOW options
UPVC windows come in a wide range...like Sliding, Casement Windows, French, Bay windows & tilt and turn type. UPVC is a good replacement for wood & aluminium. They are very elegant and ascetical. Go with the best of the make. This can be ordered once you have started the plastering activity, but need to be incorporated in the initial stage of plan itself.

Yes, the actual ordering happens after first coat of plastering. But it would be better to do your negotiations and preliminary measurement, quotes etc. prior to that stage. Here is what happened with our ordering - we had talked to them early on, even prior to the wall completion stage. I did all the negotiations and then they came to measure the windows (first measurement) during brickwork stage. At that time, we were told that the ordering will not happen till plastering is completed. So our contractor went through and completed the inside plastering. They came for measurement and then they tell us that it is the outside plastering that needs to be finished. Once that was finished and they had their measurements, they then placed the order (I paid advance at this time). THe order takes about 4-6 weeks (based on availability of materials). THey managed to get ours in about 4 weeks.sam_m400 wrote:Hi

So things to check :
1. What exactly needs to be completed prior to final measurements (it depends on which side your window gets installed, I have grill work on the inside and window frames on the outside, hence we needed the outside plastering completed first).
2. How long they are going to take to deliver.
3. Make sure the plastering is done correctly, since these windows cannot be adjusted like the wood frames, they have to have exact measurement, only a small gap is permissible, since you cannot do any filling with plaster / cement etc., the gap is filled with silicone type sealants. (anything larger than 1/2 cm will look bad and also have chance of leakage etc. )
4. What portion of your quote is required as advance. They keep insisting you pay a very large portion, but I held back. Which helps in bringing them back for any service etc. Otherwise, once they have their hands on the money, service calls could get difficult to get answered.
hope this helps.

Re: UPVC WINDOW options
there are several different brands of UPVC windows, I chose fenesta and ordered from Crystal structures in Rajajinagar. I am sure even fenesta had several dealers, and each of the other manufacturers have multiple dealers.
