Hi,
Ready made plasters are feasible in large scale commercial/res projects (time vs cost ).In residential projects i feel tradition sand cement plaster would be economical.Should check what will happen if we end in a situation of joining ready made and sand cement plaster.
Does ready made plaster hold good if you are filling electrical cut openings generally 2 - 3" deep?
What about durability ?gypsum products has lesser life compared to cement based products

it is not gypsum. The ready mix plaster consisites of lime, fly ash cement and additives and it flextural streth is good. The grading of sand is uniform. we have used for 70years old building renovation work it is good. The cost is based on over all life cycle of the product. the rebound wastage of mortar is very high in traditional sand cement mortar. if micro level analysis done it is cheaper.

2 -3 inch filling is not advisable in any masonary. even with cement mortar we should not fill it. it should be fillied with concrete or mortar grade of same strength materials
