Flushed doors Or Honne framed doors

Post by avreddy2k »

Hi,

We are planning to purchase wood for our new home, I am having few questions/doubts
Let me explain a bit more

We have decided on the following
1. Main Door and Pooja Door both frames and shutters of teak
2. All interior doors and window frames of Honne
3. Window shutter and Balcony door shutter of Ghana teak
The reason for going for Ghana teak is it does not bend and the rate is almost same as Honne
Question: Is Ghana teak that we get in Bangalore reliable and better than Honne ?
4. For all internal Doors(bathroom and bedroom) shutters
Doubt: I like the framed structure of Honne doors, but I am worrying it might bend after few years
Flushed door on the other end is strong but I am not happy with the look as they are just plain doors

Question: Which one is the best choice of all internal doors shutter ? Honne framed or Flushed doors taking cost and looks into consideration.

Another option I am thinking of going with Ghana teak for shutters also, but cost may be little bit higher and ghana teak quality reliability doubt.
Or
Flushed door with honne/teak plates over it. Is it possible ? and will it be too expensive ?

Thanks in advance

Is Honne frames suitable for bathroom doors as it leaves a stain when water logged?

1. African teak is expensive than Honne. If it is similar to Honne....not sure what teak you are talking about.
2. Honne, when seasoned well does not bend
3. Pressed doors - you will be amazed to find the variety of designs, visit any reputed shops.
4. Flush doors - Rarely people go for wooden doors, due to the moist & dampness that the doors r subjected to.

Honne frames shows stains when the paint is not properly applied.

There is another option - engineered wood doors.

It depends on your taste though. This wood is made from younger trees than one would get for real wood. Supposedly, it is stronger than some real woods, and it is pressure treated etc. during manufacture, and so will not warp or bend. It does show joints though (which for me was a plus - I like how it looked), but you may not like it. Even that is not a big negative in itself - if you are painting the doors vs. polishing them.

Cost wise it is comparable to honne
