Think about this.....when you are placing the column mat on the excavated floor, you first fill the floor with coarse 40 mm gravel & then the iron mat is placed...similarly, it is wise to have a 3 course sized stone foundation over which the plinth beam is rested.nsampa wrote:do we need to lay stone foundation below plinth beam?

Re: Construction Cost
m3_07, I'm not sure if you analogy is correct. My architect/engineer insists that there is no need for SSM foundation below plinth beam. He says the reason they design heavy plinth beam ( in my case 9"X18" with 20 mm steel rods) is to take all the load above that structure including dead weight and other loads.
However, they do place the plinth beam on PCC with 40 mm gravel just like how they did below column footings.
On my request they did 3-4 course of foundation on outer walls just to avoid any kind of rats, bandicoots digging the ground below plinth beam. My engineer said I'm simply wasting money.

Re: Construction Cost
in my case engineer insisted to put 4 to 5 coarse foundation till the footing bed n reason to avoid any cracks and mestri was suggesting to go for 2 coarse coz he had to save money on labour hahaha however i went for 3 coarse wher outer wall is build acoording the foundation layout and dad insisted to put just 1 coarsein the front parkin area ... ...plinth beam is 1.3 h w 6 inches (6 inches solid blocks )
Re: Construction Cost
Plinth beam is a beam like any other beam but is cast on soil. Normal beams have shuttering plates on the bottom to support the concrete when it is freshly poured but plinth beams do not have that unless you are making a basement. So in my opinion to give the concrete a resting base a stone foundation is given.nsampa wrote:Hi
I have one query, If we make good structural design, and plinth beam design, do we need to lay stone foundation below plinth beam?

Could anybody please share the shop from where i can get it done for my house nd approximate cost for it in sqt??
Any body has any other idea(like some graphics or texture) to decorate one wall adjacent to main door without wall cladding tiles and stone.
