Selection of windows - Wood/Aluminium/UPVC

Hi,

1. I'm going for complete contract, contractor is insisting to go for red sal wooden window, I asked for Aluminium powder coated shutter window or UPVC shutter window because of cost factor and maintenance. Contractor says Al or UPVC are not reliable and water may come inside house during rainy day. Please advice me on this and let me know the price ranges between each other. Is there any brand for recommendation?

2. What will be the cost range for single window grill (simple design) cost?

I see that there is no much insight into UPVC Windows and doors. I do not think it is right to say that UPVC windows are not reliable and water may come inside the house, and I havent experienced any water coming inside in my apartment I used to stay in UK & Netherlands where it rains/snows over 6 months a year. I have decided to go for UPVC windows, but I think the cost factor is not clear and people are taken for a ride. There are many reputed brands available in Bangalore like REHAU, VEKA, LG hausys, Fensta etc, but the pricing is kept a secret. I know LG Hausys costs Rs.450 per Sq.ft (including installation) for a sliding window design, and I have seen it is a premium brand. I have seen some complaints against Fensta in blogs so havent enquired about them yet.
If anyone can provide more insight on this topic and also the cost per sq.ft for various brands it will be helpful.

Jollyrogers is right, UPVC is extensively used globally now. Regarding protection from rain water seeping inside the house, I have seen some Fenesta ads in recent magazines about some feature which has this protection. But the prices of these windows are hiked way above what they should be. Smacks of some sort of cartellisation.

I am using UPVC windows for my house since 6 months. The windows are well constructed and provides some insulation against sound and air leakage. Infact, it is better to use UPVC windows in rooms using Air-conditioning to avoid leakage of air. Your contractor does not know what he is talking. Go for Good brand UPVC windows and it serves you for a very long time. The reliability of UPVC windows are proven worldwide.

Yes, I am sure there is some sort of Cartel being formed by these UPVC companies, especially in Bangalore. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping the rates fall down in Sep/Oct time frame this year.

Do you plan to go for UPVC sliding window?
How much cost you for Window grill.?

I am planning for Casement windows and as of now I am not thinking of having any sliding windows. For grills, I plan to fix it separately and I am currently getting a quote of Rs.58 per Sq.ft for 12 mm rods.
