Solar Heaters

Post by Vinaya »

Hi,
I live in a second floor apartment that is east facing. I wish to install a solar water heater. The terrace is not available as it has been sold as a pent house. Are there any models for solar panels which can be installed on the balcony? Is there anybody I can talk to?

Regards,
Vinaya

Hi Vinaya
Unfortunately there are no solar water heater systems that can be hanged or placed in balcony .Instead you can use solar hybrid ups installed ,so you can save the power to certain extent .Again one sided balcony is not recommended since solar panels needs max exposure of sunlight to get better returns .

Maximum sunlight falls on the solar panels is between 10:00 am & 4:00 p.m. The panels needs to be installed with south faced angular orientation. Due to these two constraints, feasibility for installing solar panels on the Balcony is near to NIL.

Alternately If the penthouse owner is ready to co-operate, you can install on their terrance and have the pipeline to your floor with added insulation. or both of you are likeminded and would like to go for solar option, go for joint investment for higher capacity (Say 500 ltr capacity fulfills the daily need of 8-10 people).

Note: In this case, due to increased floor height, initially you receive more cold water stocked (compare to normal cases)in the pipe line, before you get the actual Hot water.
