For all the new structures, plywood used should be water resistance. Moisture will be there on the walls and have to face fungus problems. If one can wait for a year or two, any cheaper wood can be used and will give same finishing.

Hi ,
Wood for interiors should be choosed depending up on the life time you are looking for.Any brands like Kitply ,green, century, archid, sheron has 3 standards economy, medium & premium.many people initially go for best quality ply, complete boiling water proof in the best brand . As the works starts they realise the budget going way out and then start compromising on exterior veneers ,laminates and hardware .
Going with carpenter you can save money only if you spend your tIme in knowing the materials available and qualities.90% of people just go with carpenter recommendations in all the material selection.
Also remember that the way you spend on wood work proportionate amount should be spent on lighting, curtains, paints etc.
Any furniture needs good lighting to make it look elegant ,the way you see in showrooms.

I would like to offer my opinion on the ply industries. My friend is a timber merchant & he is of the opinion that the big 3 of ply in india as century ply/ green ply/xxxxx ply alone will not be able to cater to the whole demand of the country. Hence, they have cross holdings into selling LOCAL PLY, which is also of a similar quality. Feedbacks/ suggestions - WELCOME !!

I am not sure about branded companies involved in local ply. Maintaining same quality standards with out brand is just not possible.Let any ply vendor name one local ply with the same name holding for 3- 4years .You cannot find even a single brand (why is it ?), i have seen non branded material with the branded price they are not consistent. The non branded items need to be seen and picked since they are not consistent in quality.

We got some flush doors from a well known company. But what we observed is, the doors are bending a bit and when we inquired the carpenters, they mentioned that it is possible that, although the seal is there, it could be a local material. How we can confirm that ? That piece has some hologram etc too.

Most of the local ply you will get is Yamunanager ply. These companies keep changing names every 3-5 years. They will be unreliable. In my opinion always go for good brand like greenply, archidply etc.
Also most readymade furniture and flush doors will have low cost unbranded material only. That is how they are able to offer such low rates.

Hi,

I have bought a flat in bannerghatta road and for wood work, I had apporached a interior designer in JP Nagar (I stay in JP Nagar 5th phase).
He gave me the following quotation for the wood work,

Kitchen (below the black stone) 875/sq ft
Kitchen (counter top) 675/sq ft
Loft 350/sq ft
Baskets - 6 Nos 23000
Wordrobe (incl. Loft box) 675/sq ft
Pooja Unit and TV Unit 750/sq ft
* Frosted / plain glass shutes and imported hinges used in kitchen.
* All units are made in Prelaminated particle board

After going through few posts in this website, I am little concerned over the material he is going to use for all the units (incl. Kitchen)
The total quote is around 2.6 L. i don't have any idea on the material / plywood.

Can you suggest this quote is reasonable / which plywood material can be used for a reasonable price / budget to get 5 years life warrantly ?

Are the rates for design only or are these for interior works inclusive? If inclusive I dont think the guy is professional as the rates are extremely low. Best thing would be you ask him to give you in writing the material that he will use and then take opinion of some expert on it.

This is just my opinion.
