granite floorings
i just wanted to share my experience . i bought a large quantity of granite flooring material from RPG on bannerghatta road , a very reputed and recommended source for such material. the entire lot of over 30 huge slabs developed extensive cracks after laying. we had a few which were not laid and found that too had developed large number of cracks. we wanted the dealer to come and inspect the same and compensate us for the huge loss. he was initially very unwilling and contecded that they were due to faulty laying. when we told him the name of the Layer, he conceded that he is a very well known and very good layer and faults could not be due to laying. after much persuasion he sent his personnel for inspection. they agreed that the supplies were of poor quality and that it was very unusual to have such extensive cracks though limited number were quite common with granites. but in spite of that he did not agree for free replacement for such slabs and finally after lot of cajoling and threatening offered a notional discount on the deal.
i am just bringing it to the notice of members to b wary of this reputed dealer of a reputed company and avoid any business with them. i would especially draw the attention of Praveen who is often advising on construction material procurement .

Hi chandramouli,
I do understand your problem.Even i faced a similar issue with green marble turning black due to some chemical reaction in stone(with HMG long time back 6years).No one knows whom to blame.
you said a person from the store has come (after much persuasion) and inspected .good they at least did it ,normal guys don't even care. For me at least 3 or 4 times in year go through these granite guys. One or other time we do face some or other issues.
Ultimately its the end user get effected due to these kind of issues. Its really good that you shared this with us.I am not really sure what can be ideal solution in these kind of cases.

Re: granite floorings
Did the inspection guy give you a written statement saying the supplies were of inferior quality, then you can go to the consumer court.
Re: granite floorings
Two weeks ago I visited RPG in banneghatta road and decided a few slabs as final selection to buy. Now I am concerned to buy granite slabs from RPG after reading this thread. I also visited MR Granite in Jigani last week and liked a few slabs over there. I am now inclined towards buying granite from there. Can people share their experience on quality and reliability of granite slabs bought from MR Granite ?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: granite floorings
Praveen....what is your take on pacific industries @ NElamangala. We bought from them 11 years back, they were a big name then, now even a bigger name.
Can't these cracks be visible before laying, meaning at the time of delivery, is there a way to visually inspect them??

Hi chandramouli,
I am also planning to buy granites. So is it difficult to identify the cracks at store? How to avoid this situation?
Please let me know.
Thanks,
Iyyappan

Re: granite floorings
We did have cracks in a couple of the slabs, but our dealer was quite nice - he just sent the replacement slabs and we returned the cracked slabs. The only issue that could arise is that we may not find exact matching - since the new set could be from a different lot. In our case, we got lucky, the ones that cracked were still available from the same lot and so no issues with matching etc.
You need to find a dealer that will state that he will deliver good slabs and if they are not to your satisfaction, they will exchange it for you.

Re: granite floorings
Any insights into why do the slabs develop crack before they are even laid? Is it because of the internal stress developed while slicing/ sawing them? Praveen had mentioned in one of the earlier threads about 3 alternate ways of sawing - is any one of these less "stressful" to the stone and hence could have a lesser possibility of developing cracks? Sorry for the string of questions, but just trying to get to the bottom of the issue
