South facing site - vastu

Need some help from experts!

How to find out if South facing site good for construction? I understand that East and North facing sites ideal, however trying to find out pros/cons of a South facing plot?

In the olden days, a village or town's funeral area was always located in the south. Hence people started saying "your house shouldn't face south etc".
My belief is that our destiny is strictly in our hands and deeds. In 21st century, believing in Vastu is only good for the vasu experts. Hope I didn't offend anyone since that is not my motive.

Outside India, i don’t see any body bothered about this aspect. They build the house facing the road regardless of site facing to E/W/N/S and they continue to live there and i am yet to hear or any scientific proof suggesting that a wrong facing site caused any issue in their life. We Indians tend to look for excuses always, everywhere and blame it on nature/neighbors/who\what ever comes on their way. Did you hear about any east facing site owner got divine intervention/help ? Did you hear any south facing site owner got cursed just because of the site direction? It is high time we should rethink about these superstitious beliefs

In Eastern US, south facing (meaning you get afternoon sun) is preferred for many reasons - during winter you have better snow melting in the front, the house stays warmer on the living portions (most houses have the kitchens etc in the back, and living and dining rooms, bedrooms in the front) are warmer.

But in India, during the summer months if you have a south facing site, you will have a lot of heat during the day in the living portions, since most houses have living areas in the front and the bedrooms in the back. It is possible to design a house suitable to optimize these weather factors. the whole science behind vaastu is to ensure you optimize the house for weather elements. I cannot understand the blanket statement that a south facing site is not per vaastu. HOw can a city be formed with only north or east facing sites (again people don't prefer west facing sites as well according to vaastu). For a well planned city, there will be sites in all directions. It is upto the architect/designer to figure a good way to optimize things such that the house is comfortable in all seasons.

I remember a joke.
A politician takes a railway and gets down at Delhi station. Since his bogie is last one and the train has many bogies he has to walk quite a bit to reach the station gate where his VIP cars are waiting. Frustrated he orders - No train should have last bogie -:). City should never have south and west facing sites -:), may be a challenge to architects.

My experience with Vastu, one such example - As per vaastu agni moole should not be extended. I ignored and thought what a non-sense. I extended kitchen corner to house a utility space. Guess what? My kitchen window would be blocked and will not get enough light. Dropped the idea of extending it.

I think we should not overly worry about the consequences of not doing something as per vaastu and its supposed implications - like health etc. Vaastu should give us a framework to think in the direction of being in synch with nature - light, ventilation, heat etc.

I raised this question here for one reason, a RE guys showed a site and it was south facing, he also passed on a comment that - Sir, its a great site if you want to construct and live here, but resale would be a great difficulty for 2 reasons, site is facing south and road hit!

According to me there is still a lot of influence for Vastu, hence I have already dropped that site

In the neighbouring Tamil Nadu, south facing sites/houses are well sought after. Sellers would specifically mention the south facing nature of the property in ads to attract buyers....South facing homes are 'supposed' to be very well ventilated as it will let in the breeze originating from southern direction.

Road hit is definitely not a good idea. Just imagine when traffic in that area gets heavier, your house would be exposed to unnecessary risk of crashes into your it. THat might be the reason, vaastu also says, don't buy a property at the intersection of 3 roads (if it is in the corner of 2 intersecting roads you will be safe, as traffic keeps moving), but with your house on the dead end, there are chances of vehicles not stopping in time and crashing into your property.

Yes, people have become blind to this vaastu thing and will reject the south facing site without thinking. Also, someone who is quite an expert in vaastu, mentioned that as per vaastu, it is not a general rule for everyone. It depends on owner's horoscope. So there - there must be about 1/12 the buying population which would fit the south facing need (if the horoscope is per the zodiac) - what do you think?

Vastu is a mechanism to spent money for no gain.
In a way Vastu has given livelyhood for many people.
Many people spend their black money in this method
for psychological relief to cover up their sins.

Basic principle:
East & west direction: you get abundant Sunlight either in Morning or evening. Getting sunlight on body is
scientifically Good for health and generation of essential Vitamin D for body.

North & South Direction: Good fresh air flow direction. keeps you cool and health.

You follow any principle, always opt for ways to get maximum sunlight and good amount of natural
air flow which is essential for good health. Health is wealth. Thats the reason for the setback rules
made by town planning authorities.

Don't go for closed 4 walls/windoes and always use of artificial lights and Fan, Air cooler/Conditioner's is bad for health
