borewell sharing.

Post by rajuraikar »

I and my neighboring site owner both together are planning to build 1+1 house on our sites, not entirely to minimise financial cost but to be gentle on earth I was thinking of digging only one borewell for both of us, we'll be sharing the cost of digging borewell charges.
I wanted to know if anybody in this forum has done or taught about doing something similar like this? what are the issues/disadvantages or problems that may occur in long term while sharing one borewell in two houses?

Will you be having a common sump as well? Will make more sense actually to have common sump. You will save on cost and space as well. You can have 2 motors to pump the water up to your individual over head tanks. Issue will be sharing the electrical expenses for borewell motor. You can either share it 50:50, but then one day few years down the line you will get into a fight about who is consuming less water and who is consuming more. You can make use of water meters to keep track of that..but then they can be tampered with!!

There are issues but mutual trust can iron them out.

Apart from minimizing the pollution caused during drilling 2 borewells, the harm due to one borewell or 2 borewells to the same aquifer is the same if the water usage is the same. You may have a good understanding with your neighbor now, but what is the guarantee that the relationship would continue this way for ever? What happens when one of you sell the house and the new owner does not get along well with the other? If saving money is not the issue, it is simpler to have each of you your own borewells.

Truely agree with amohit and tvsh, I'll be monetarily benefited by sharing the cost of drilling and repairs, the risk that i'll have now is relation with my neighbor..

Hi raju,
Its a good thought and installing the water meters (as suggested by mohit) is best option to monitor the consumption of water by each house. In fact this will be a concept of community borewell. There are many colonies in Bangalore with single borewell supplied to all the plots .
