Have a Vist to IKEA , you will have loads of items to pick.
I have got some smart kitchen utilities which are small in nature but very good !! (check online you can short list)
you can pick stickers , wall posters, etc ..!

most items are available in India and pretty much similar cost, I can't vouch for details or quality etc. But one thing to remember is that these days, the airlines have very low limits for baggage weights and you may end up paying for luggage. But if you must, here are some things I would prefer to get (only my opinion)
1. sheets (tried searching for good ones, and only found marginally good quality).
2. towels (same as sheets).
3. Command hooks or self adhesive hooks (these are from 3M and you can use it to hang pictures etc. without driving nails in walls).
4. curtain panels, although they are available there, did not find that much variety.
5. dish draining racks (those that you see there were too large and would take up a lot of counter space).
6. tried several large stores and could not find rinse aid / automatic dishwashing detergent (I know they are available there, but not sure where).
7. coasters - you get good ones at ikea etc.

once again, all these add to baggage and may end up costing you much more than if you bought it locally.

People suggested I get faucets, bath fixtures etc. (I agree we get a lot more variety in the US, but then compatibility in connectors and fixing them may become an issue later).
Same for light fixtures (again not sure about voltage issues and the connection differences).

good luck on your house. This is the stage where it takes up a lot of your time, effort and most importantly money.

I had visited home depot when I last visited. There are so many small things that you can buy which will not add to lot of weight and will be reasonable to buy. Unfortunately I was not even thinking to start building the house that time.
Please share your experience when you return. Will help me plan. All the best.
