Due to continued strike, sand prices have sky rocketed and people are now using Robo sand which comes in 3 varieties - Air wash, water wash and original (plastering quality)

Each load of sand is costing me around 30-35K more and even at these prices, it is not readily available. My contractor has reduced the number of people significantly but doesn't want to stop as once the labour leave, restarting is difficult according to him.

I am almost 4-6 weeks behind schedule now.

I hear robo sand is ok for concrete but not that great for plastering as it will develop cracks. What my architect has suggested is to use the regular sand for plastering for tiling, use a mix of robo and regular sand to bring down the cost.

It looks like importing sand from different country would be the easier than buying from TamilNadu. Anyway got the sand for 58K yesterday after combing the TN border at attibele, chandapura, TVS Checkpost, Anekal Chekpost.

I don't think it is going to get smoother in near-time.

Sand from
- Mahishi/shimgoa is very good for plasting
- KR pet Sand good for plasting, it is cheaper and cost around 26 to 30K.
- Andhra Sand - Good for Plinth, more soil contents. Better to use Ramanagara sand.
- Hoskote/Kolar - I am not sure which river flows.
- Kollegal Sand - Its like gold, everything goes to kerala.
- Harihara sand - be carefull, it can be mixed with Mangalore sand.

Having three Lorries and jumping from programmer to Lorry businness would have yielded more for me..

Most of us who build here are not builders/contractors. So, i wish TN HighCourt consider this before passing any blockage.

I bought tirchy sand today, 6 wheeler, for 40 K. got the truck from hebbal stand.
i was buying the same quantity (17 X 3.5 X 6.2) for Rs 26 K prior to the sand strike.

looks like prices are coming down (though very slowly), since 6 wheelers were asking 48-50k 2 weeks ago.
