Porotherm clay bricks
Re: Porotherm clay bricks
Please don't go by their website. Its not an MNC that maintains website up to date with fancy stuff. Please call and check with them. They have porotherm blocks which are same as that or Weinerberger (in terms of dimension and other properties like effervesence, weight, compressive strength etc.). I have got these blocks delivered from Anjaneya just 2 weeks back. I have visited their factory near Hope Farm also. If required you can ask them for test report of their blocks. I did so and was satisfied with the report.
Re: Porotherm clay bricks
I tried so many times there number but getting busy. Can you please share any offices or contact other than in the site (28549078 )?
What is rate they are quoting, as i got 50 Rs for 6" in 50 Rs, 8" 60 Rs ?

Re: Porotherm clay bricks
I found one issue with blocks from ABT. The plinth level of the wall is not as fine as Weinerberger. However, if the wall is planned to be plastered, then ABT clay blocks are good enough. But if the plan is to not plaster the wall, then Weinerberger blocks are better.
Re: Porotherm clay bricks
Please can you give more information about ABT clay blocks. what is the expansion of ABT clay blocks. Where it is available? What will be the cost of ABT clay blocks., Please share some more information. is clay blocks cheaper than conventional construction? Is any skilled experienced workers needed? if so please share their contact details.

Re: Porotherm clay bricks
Are there any constraints in porotherm based walls for electrical conduites, plumbing, fixing screws and other fixtures etc.?
thanks in advance..

Re: Porotherm clay bricks
This is a very good question which I had in mind too in selecting the bricks and perhaps the deciding factor which ruled out porotherm or any thin walled cellular bricks.
a) Once you cut grooves for Conduits on inside or outside, it needs to be sealed with mortar and you cannot leave your wall un plastered or else filled grooves will look out.
b) The conduits need to be held by SS Nails and Binding wire. Since the cell wall thickness is very small ,nail will not hold.
c) If the CPVC or PVC Lines are held by Small clamps or Brackets nailed to outer wall , you have the same problem. unless they use chemical fillers to increase nail holding.
d) Mounting Windows and Door Frames\Jambs in Westren world is different , compared indian types. Lets say I have a Steel Door with anchor bolts It cannot be properly mounted on walls with hollow structures.
e) Lift shafts which require anchoring , exclusively need Solid Bricks.
f) Leaving external walls un plastered has a architectural advantage, but waterproofing is a major challenge even though you use special cements. I decided not to take the risk.
Having said that , I want Lighter walls ,Better Sound and Thermal insulation , Bricks with larger area, Lower cost compared to Porotherm. The option in market which meets all the demand is Cellular Blocks.(Ruled out AAC) I chose APCO 8" with more Cells. The cell wall thickness is better and its a well designed brick engineering wise.I had plans to plaster the walls any way. So far I had no issues with any of the above with APCO Cellular blocks, I chose Solid blocks where ever necessary.

Re: Porotherm clay bricks
Has anyone had experience using hollow brick. These are not the same as hollow block or protherm blocks.

We plan to have exposed brickwork and were told that the hollow-brick is cheaper than wire cut bricks and is a viable alternative. If any members have experience using these bricks, it will be very useful to learn from your experience.
Thanks.

Re: Porotherm clay bricks
Dear Kaukix,
There is no considerable price difference between Wire cut and hollow bricks. my house is entirely built in wire cut bricks and some walls using Size stones.
I bought my wire cut bricks from ABT, after looking into all other pricing options including hollow bricks and Porotherm. You can go with either 6" wire cut bricks for external walls and 4" bricks for internal walls or Complete Porotherm, if yours is column based construction. for Load bearing, porotherm will not work and you will need 9" walls.
You can contact Chandrashekhar, who is the Manager at the factory. Convey my regards in case you call him.

Re: Porotherm clay bricks
nagzzz, thank you for the quick reply.
We were very interested in porotherm blocks as ours is a column construction.
We saw three properties constructed using porotherm blocks. One was immaculately finished and looked wonderful. The other 2 were finished to a lower standard and did not look good. So going with porotherm would mean that the finish has to be of high standard. As we were not closely supervising our project, we moved away from porotherm.
Could you give me the contact number of Mr.Chandrashekar please.
We are planning to leave the wire cut bricks exposed and are being told that the cost of (solid) wire cut bricks range from 6-16 rupees depending on finish.
Was hoping that using a hollow brick might reduce the cost and we could use a material with higher finish for the same price.
