Reg Tiles cleaning

Post by PM007 »

Hello all,
I have got black italian tiles for my bathroom walls. Recently, due to the soap and other detergents, black tiles have got white patches on them. I tried cleaning them with many liquids, but no use.

Could any one suggest what can be done for this, without losing original tile look?

Thanks in advance,
Prasanna

At my place, we generally use white vinegar and a plastic scrub to clean the tiles. You can also mix some vinegar with washing soda to enhance the cleaning power.

Mr Prasana,
If these patches are on top of the tiles layer then you ca use S. Acid, will clean any of the patches and keeps ur tiles glossy, but don't do it urself, it's very dangerous,

S.Acid? Sulphuric acid?

I suggest you check with the tile vendor for best option to clean it instead of experimenting on your own. The acid mentioned by Ashraf is available in most shops which sell chemicals & cost around 15/20rs a liter. Ask your near by hardware store and they can direct you to the chemical shop which sells this acid used for tiles/floor cleaning. It is used to clean the flooring (vetrified / ceramic) after the laying is done to remove any cement which is struck etc.

If the white patch is just on the outside, then this acid can be used for your purpose as well. But I am surprised, how come you are not able to clean it with normal soap/etc considering its only dirty. If you are trying some acid, you better do experiment only in one corner where you have this problem, if satisfied, then clean the entire area.

If it is due to some defect in the tiles, then, you are inviting trouble by using acid to clean it = you would end up scraping the gloss ( I dont know wht the problem is). So, best check with your contractor / vendor for a decision.

note: this acid is not very strong for the workers who use it daily (they do it tactically whcih you are not aware of). But for us, who have never touched it, will get our skin peeled off within mins due to its strength. So, be very careful and avoid your skin coming in contact with this acid :)

I have a similar problem with both wall and floor tiles in bathroom, caused by hard borewell water. I keep washing it with acid once in a month, but the white salt formation comes back on the tiles within a few days. Tired of it. Is there any permanent solution to it?
