You may be right in your own way, but exhaust fans being used since ages to flush out thick sticky smoke

Using chimney not only adds looks but also very effective in flushing out hot thick sticky smoke out of kitchen
Keeps kitchen clean

I feel we all go based on architect recommendations, Architect Praveen can shed light on this matter

Hello Mahesh,

Please could you provide some review/feedback on TERESA 90 (chimney) and ORO 80-4 (hob)? Is the chimney as easy to maintain as advertised?
Also, which dealer did you purchase this from, and what discount did they provide you?

Exactly what I was thinking, but wife disagrees.

Hi,
Natural Chimney is not a new concept for Indian cooking . we can find straight up chimneys in many old town and village homes. In mid 90's we moved to exhaust fan for forced ventilation. The whole concept of powered suction chimney is to make sure the oil filled smoke take the shortest exit route with out settling down on any of our swanky modular kitchen.
I remember in our old kitchens traditionally they wash all the steel and ceramic storage vessels top lids once in 3 months because a thick layer of oil filled dust will settle on them .
Using regular exhaust fan will make the smoke to exit but air cannot carry the oil fumes efficiently till the exhaust fan.
The contemporary power suction chimneys are right above the stove making it easy to suck the oil fumes immediately at the same time filter the oil with in the chimney. For expensive kitchens we need expensive exhaust systems :)

Easy to sermonize however if one has open kitchen layout chimney is very much needed because keeping windows open mostly brings gush of wind and puts off flame on gas burners. Keeping windows closed means pervasive smells.

We got a Faber Chimney installed some 15 years back in our current dwelling for same reason and it is serving well. This is with baffle filter and all it needs is to wash the filter with dishwasher liquid once in few weeks. No other maintenance required.

Baffel filter is very much required for Indian cooking despite what various brands claim.

Basic stainless steel Chimney with around 750 to 1000 Cu meter capacity with baffel filter is all one needs in an average Indian kitchen.
No need to go for uber fancy stuff. And this costs around 12 to 15K. Remember if you install a very high capacity chinney it is not going to be useful at all. The suction required depends on the area of burner and not total kitchen area. Higher capacity chimney will be noisier so will give headach to person cooking.
