Hi,
We are using traditional method of fixing door/window frames along with the construction of the Door frames. In this method, door/window frames are fixed before
the lintel level but this method exposes wood to cement, water etc.
Is there a way we can protect the wood from getting in contact with water and cement? or what steps can be taken for protecting from cement.
Regards,
Venky
Protecting Door Frames from cement during lintel
Re: Protecting Door Frames from cement during lintel
Hi,
Some of the houses i saw for the Main door & Pooja Room Frames, they usually wrap the Frames with White thin cloth or Brown tape to avoid scraches during work and cement should not fall on the Frames. Later they will cut the Cloth or remove the tape and clean the surface with Sandpaper during finishing time.
For other door frames they kept as it is and will be cleaned during the finishing stage.

Re: Protecting Door Frames from cement during lintel
During my construction , I realized it hard way this concern is more psychological than a real one .Having said that I did my part to protect it as explained below while the labors mocked at my love for the wood. But no matter what , frames will be smeared with cement, soaked in water(cannot avoid curing the wall) and the painters are expected to remove it and painters did a wonderful job. Surprisingly wood seasoned well after abuse, frames look confident and ready to serve for years.
a)The challenge is protecting window frames especially if you have grill rods passing through the frames. Another question is do you want to protect only wood or grills also . door frames is easy, you can nail a 6mm plywood all round or apply masking tape. I have done the latter.
b) imagine the bonding of wall with wood frame with tape or plastic wrapper in between. hence need to do it on other 3 sides leaving the joint side. You get 3 inch masking tape , but require lot of material and labor to completely cover with tape.
c) Other option is to buy a surface protection transparent film(4 ft 100 m roll approx Rs 1500) , cover the 2 faces of window. Again your contractor will cry because he needs to pass the plastering mortar through the window.
