Please review - Quotation for wood work
Please review the attached my contractor quotation, please suggest any vendor OR way to get the teak frame and door done cheaply.
Re: Please review - Quotation for wood work
Bmallu,
I think cost is on the higher side.
For a 7x3.5 door with 5x4 section - around 2.9 cft of wood is required. (7*2+3.5*2)*5*4/144
@3200cft with 15% wastage the cost should come to 10700 for wood.
Labour should be 170-225 for entire door - not just frame. That should be another 4725.
Add contractor's profit of 15%, everything should come to 17.7k - in this cost labour is included for shutter too

Girish, thanks for the reply...can you or some one suggest, if we can get ready teak frame and doors or way to get this done? I am looking 4 frame with doors.
Re: Please review - Quotation for wood work
Girish,
Can you please elaborate a little more about calculating the wood required for a particular size of doors/windows? This will help many like me who has chosen the labour contract. I didn't understand how you arrived at 2.9 cft of wood including the wastage..
bmallu,
I am also looking at ordering the wood for my villa. I have a couple of shop/saw mill's details in Bommanahalli, HSR layout area. If you are looking in the same area we can go together and try to get some discount.

Re: Please review - Quotation for wood work
@sano,
Wood cft can be calculated using section size, top-bottom-left-right pieces needed.
For main door of 7x3.5 both all 4 of top-bottom-left-right pieces are needed. So running feet would be 7*2+3.5*2+0.5*2 = 22 rft
In previous post I forgot to add 0.5 (6") is needed for 3" projections on each side.
Wood cft = (Total rft * section size)/144
Section size is width-depth of the frame. In my house we have used 5x3 sections for all doors/windows. For main/pooja we used 6x3
Hope this helps

Re: Please review - Quotation for wood work
Thanks girish for the detailed post. Is it the same way we calculate for the door shutters also? I guess window shutters can be calculated the same way and add the glass cost, but what about doors?
Below is the quotation I received for teak wood:
1. Main door (7 X 3.5) section 6X3
2. Dining door to balcony (7 X 2.5) section 5X3
3. Two attached windows to dining door (6X2) section 5X3
Total wood required is 20.75 cft. (as per the carpenter)
Total cost @ 4750/cft = Rs. 98562/-
This is excluding the labour, glass, rod for windows etc. Is this reasonable?
