We are just to begin our tiling work. I have been give a quote of Rs 110 Per Sqft for laying 2 ft x 2 ft vitrified tile (Tile price not included, the rest of the material included (Cement, sand, white cement etc)). Following is the work listed as part of the price -

Providing and laying to pattern, 10mm Thick Vitrified tile of 600x600mm size, approved shade, pattern with 20-40mm thick cement mortar bed of 1:4 mix including pointing with matching color pigment cement, acid washing and complete

I wanted to check with someone who has recently undertaken tiling work, if this a fair price quoted for the work given that tile is being provided by us.

Rs 110 psqft is too high for labor. I would suggest since you are supplying the tiles, you supply all the other required materials like Cement, lime etc, and just ask him for labor cost. It should not be more than rs 30-40 psqft. And make sure you don't tell him the price of your vitrified tiles before fixing the labor prices. They have a habit of adjusting the labor prices based on your purchasing ability. :-P

@Tendlu- My contractor wants me to go with Cement slurry, probably because he has no idea who to do it with adhesives  . Check if your contractor is happy with it. if he is, you may go ahead. My architect told me, on paper, the adhesives specifications sound impressive.

Thanks very much for a response. I have gone over the quotation quite a few time and Rs 110 per sq. ft. has been quoted for Labour + laying material cost (Sand, Cement, Acid, PoP) (Tile cost is separate)

If you don't mind would it possible to let me know what would be a fair per sq ft. price for laying a vitrified tile for flooring and bath room walls for a total finished job.

I am looking for per sq ft price for Tile Laying that includes -
1. Sand
2. Cement
3. Acid (for acid wash)
4. Plaster of Paris (PoP) (for covering it Tiles until)
5. Labour
6. Filling Grout Cost.
7. Labour for Acid was and for applying PoP
8. Any other cost that may be involved.

Regarding the original question of Cement Slurry or Tile Adhesive. According to me using Tile adhesive on walls that is already plastered is advantageous, however using it for floor tiles will be very expensive.

for Tile adhesive ,as it says cannot be stuck to floor directly , for the reason the flatness is not assured while the roof slab is poured, over and above the debris that might have been accumulated cannot be completely removed unless lot of labor is assigned to remove it , and nature of debris accumulated will work against the bonding so invariably you will need to create additional base with sand and mortar which need to be then set and cured only after the tiles are set using the adhesive. This way traditional way will work out cheaper.
