Hello,

@blrsiteseeler, my sump is also under construction. it is RCC sump for about 6500 lts capacity,I am thinking of going for tiles but my mason says the only advantage is cleaning and maintenance is easy and if not lied properly there is a remote chances of leakage at the joints.
So just seeking some feed back here to take a final call.
More about my sump construction details can be found here:

Members please let me know your opinion, comments for going tiles finish for a sump. and what will be the appx cost (tiles+labour) involved for a 8ftx7ftx5ft sump.

not sure I understand leakage issues. If you expect leakage with tiles, then why won't there be leakage with the regular wall. Mine was first all plastered and then we put tiles, I don't think there is any leakage (but don't know how exactly to check that though).

The tiles are an additional layer over the normal sump tank, so in fact, it should provide an extra layer of protection and not the other way around.

Hello to All,

Almost made up my mind to go for tiles finish for the sump.
But I would like to know at what stage do we put the tiles ?
Usually we construct sump during the initial stage of house construction ,so do we need to put the tiles at this stage only or can we postpone tile laying to the final stages when we take up tiles laying to bathrooms and kitchen ?
can we put tiles after the cover slab is done to the sump or should we do it before the slab cover

My neighbor was telling to put tiles at the final stages of house construction ,other wise these construction workers use the sump so roughly the tiles may broke or damaged.
Is it ok to put the tiles at the end ? just rough finish the bottom and inner walls and do the cover slab work and start using the sump till the civil work is finished and then put the tiles at the end ?

your suggestions on this are most welcome ,as my sump work is almost in the verge of finishing stage ,just needs plastering and cover slab so your early inputs are very helpful.

do it at the final stages. Right now, there will be a lot of dirt and stuff going in - with bricks being soaked, the workers using it for cleaning all kinds of stuff from paint buckets to cement on themselves. If you finish all the work and just before covering it up, tile the tank and then fill it with clean water.

Doing it at last is a good idea, I have decided to go with the tiles finish too, and decided to do it at last, currently sump is being rough used by workers, there is a lot of dirt that gets in.

The Sump should also be waterproofed so that it doesnt get dissolved if there is a leakage, i would also suggest use of concrerte bricks for sump consutruction

I am constructing sump with columns coming as part of sump wall.
Please provide inputs on care to be taken or share your experiences of similar kind.

Thanks,

Hello,

Is it possible to have rounded corners with a tile finished sump? I have read in this forum advising to go for cornered (rounded corners) sump to withstand the pressure of water. my mastery is telling it is not possible to go for rounded corners if we are finishing with tiles, is it correct?

if he is right, which is preferred rounded corners with cement finish or to go with tile finish foregoing rounded corners ?
